I really thought we would get a much colder winter. Is it because of El nino why it wasn't so cold. I mean for it to be over already is incredible. So any seasoned Boise residents ,is this winter typical?

Here is a link to Boise's weather history and patterns. Boise Climatology Unique Local Data

Here are the stats from that website for February:
NORMALS (1981-2010) EXTREMES (1864-2011)
HIGH LOW FEB AVG WARMEST AVG COLDEST AVG
TEMP...44.7 28.3 36.5 44.2 (1934) 20.2 (1868)

With the average temp in February at 36.5 when we do get snow in town, it doesn't stick around very long. But at least we can go up to Bogus Basin to enjoy it up there!

Not typical; it was very warm and fairly dry this year, at least in the city. Better year in the mountains; last year we had peak runoff in February. It will be a month or so longer this year, which is still early.

Do you have to shovel snow quite often in Boise? Or does it not typically snow much there?

I was surprised when I drove to Twin Falls from Pocatello last weekend to pickup a rescue dog how the snow seemed to slowly disappear. I can only imagine what it would look like west of Twin Falls.

Pocatello had their fair share of snow this year, that's for sure.

Typically the snow melts off pretty well on it's own. We do get snow, but typically it is not enough to build much of a snowman in Boise. Only one year recently did we have enough snow to really build a snow fort.

It is best to scrape the snow off the driveways and sidewalks so the concrete will get a chance to heat up and melt off the rest before it gets packed down by the car and footprints since that will cause it to stay much longer.

The city does a pretty good job keeping the main roads clear when it snows, but the side streets in the subdivisions will take longer to clear.
