I finally found someone who has taken an interest in me and found a problem, and I hope to have it corrected before I leave. We have a diagnostic plan, but I leave in two months. I will certainly need follow up in Boise and a regular check up with someone.
Can anyone recommend a thorough, understanding cardiologist in the area? I would really like someone who is interested in new technology, as my doctor, even though he is pretty old, is extremely up to date on new treatments, etc. Someone kind and patient. Does anyone prefer St. Al's or St. Luke's for cardiology? I know nothing about either hospital, and I'm curious if one is more preferred for cardiac issues.
Hope you guys have some suggestions. Thanks in advance!!
PS: I know insurance determines some of this, but I'm leaving my job in April, so I don't know what insurance I will be purchasing once I quit. I am really more interested in finding a great doctor, and I will work around the other issues. Thanks

HI artc,
I'd recommend you ask your current cardiologist for a referral. He/She knows exactly what you need. Given your age, it's important you have the right cardiologist. Any sub-specialist who attends national meetings and belongs to professional organizations can give you a list of who could best meet your needs.
I am impressed you are asking now, but I think it could be a situation someday, where someone on these forums lists a favorite physician but that specialist has had minimal training with your disease. It's always best to start with the specialist currently treating you for a referral.
There was a person who posted months ago asking for oncologists for his wife and her continuing GYN cancer care, in N. Idaho. Folks tried to be helpful and gave phone numbers etc.. Finally, I'd seen enough. I asked if his wife needed a GYN Oncologist for check ups (the surgeon), Radiation Oncologists or Medical Oncologists? He didn't know; however, to his credit he found out. His wife had been treated for something like two years. When he answered my post, that was the first time in two years of treatment he learned his wife had a GYN Oncologist and Medical Oncologist as well. It matters because he assumed all oncology care was available in N. Idaho. He got re-directed and back on course finding his wife's doctors.
Boise should have the cardiologist you need. But your current cardiologist knows if you need a nuclear cardiologist, an invasive, interventional, heart failure/transplant or electrophysiologist etc. We don't.
Once you know what kind of cardiologist you need and your doctor has referred you ( make sure your records have been sent and received by the Boise cardiologist before you move and/or get a copy of your records that only you move), then you can decide which hospital.
Good luck with your surgery and your move
