Hello all!

Native Californian here looking to relocate OUT of California. Tired of the crowds, the drought, etc. As I get older, I just want to settle down and relax.

I was searching for "23 things you should know before moving to Boise" and one was "Boise people don't care much for Californians".

Rather than just taking that article for its word, I thought I would come here and ask you good folks what your views on Californians moving to your fine city are.

Thank you in advance!
Ted

I have been welcomed warmly. No issues at all.

There's some resentment about the number of Californians moving here. I don't think it would be a major issue for you but it certainly isn't a complete myth.

Boiseans are generally pretty welcoming of anyone who comes here and accepts the way of life here. If someone moves here and constantly comments about "in California it was this way" or "I wish Boise would do this the way we did back home", then that person is going to be disliked.

We generally have no issue with people who want to live a Boise lifestyle. But if you want Boise to change to match what you are used to, you are going to be unhappy here.

Thank you all for taking time to answer my question and taking no offense.

That would be no worry about me wanting to change people to my California mindset. If anything, I want to adopt a non-Californian mindset. I'm quite conservative and a homebody, and I just want a hometown that is friendly, warm, and kind to each other.

I appreciate your help, folks!

Interestingly enough, that tends to be the case for many states I have considered (Oregon, etc.). I may or may not mention where I came from once I move somewhere! LOL

It use to be true until the Californians took over the state. Now Idaho is starting to become more liberal, expensive, higher taxes, anti-gun, police state, more demands for bloated social programs just like the failed police state of California they came from.

I'm probably headed back to Washington state for work and going to fight the good fight over there, because the big corporate infrastructure of Washington coupled with a sizable military population and very conservative Eastern half of the state means that there is more of a resistance to the onslaught of Californian/New York/New Jersey liberalism infesting the Northwest.

In the 80s and 90s if you had California plates in Oregon they would cut your tires in the smaller towns.. People generally would remove their plates ASAP on moving to smaller towns or suburbs. Today half the people are from California, so obviously "safety in numbers".

I was just at Trader Joes in Boise a week ago and this Californian guy started mouthing off out loud for the whole store to hear, how they need to ban semi auto rifles and how Idaho is crazy for all these insane gun laws.. He said people carrying guns makes it impossible for police to do their job now. More complete BS and ludicrous theories from the "Califascists". That is the term I use to refer to Californian fascists who decide to spread their influence around the country. I told him please go back to that craphole you came from with all its gun laws to protect you so that no scary gun toting Idaho person would end up murdering him. After all, California is completely safe from gun crime since it has the strictest gun laws in the nation.

LOL I tried to do this when I first moved here......except, I didn't know any other state, I had lived in CA most of my life. A lot of people here are from CA their selves. Try not to let that be the main thing you speak about and no one will ever ask you. You may want to visit a few times a year around different areas. For some getting away to Idaho, becomes why did I move here, while others, it was the best thing they ever did. Good luck!

Thank you for the advice. From what I see, Boise just looks pretty lovely. Clean air, friendly folks. I may just have to pay you all a visit and see what's up.

I appreciate your input!
