Hello all! We finally retired here and need a good family doctor for my wife and I. Preferably in the Middleton or Caldwell area but willing to travel for a good Dr that actually cares and takes time with you and not waiting 2 hours past your appointment time. Please respond with your recommendation and any pros/cons? Thank you kindly in advance!

Do you have health insurance? If so you usually need to see an in network doctor. So a little more info might help those responding.

Default St. Lukes' Doctors

I lived in Caldwell for 7 years, and had really good luck with St Lukes' doctors. St. Lukes' Meridian hospital or the one downtown in Boise are the best. Been in both and got really good care. I would stay away from the Saltzer medical group~my experiences have not been good.

Most of the doctors are family practice, hard to find an Internal Medicine, which is what I had in another state. Also they use a lot of physicians assistants, etc. which I was not too familiar with where I came from.

I tried to set up an appointment for a new doctor at the St Luke's facility at McMillan & Cloverdale but they said they were not taking any patients over the age of 60! That sort of turned me off so I found some Doogie Howser kid at St Alphonsus. So far he hasn't killed me.

There's a serious shortage of doctors in Idaho and with the influx of retirees, I think it's going to be a problem in the future if something isn't done to recruit more doctors into the state.

Oh yeah, I've gotten lots of PA's too. The last time I went to my dermatologist he had hired a PA and I happened to get her. Hated it. When I make an appt with my regular provider, I want to see the provider not someone I've not met or vetted. And the worst thing is, the PA's charge just as much as the experienced Dr I thought I was going to be examined by.

That's all I see here too is the Physician Assistant instead of my primary care physician.

We are so crowded here that it is also sometimes very difficult to get a doctor appointment with anyone. Some can be backed up for weeks or months.
Too many fish in the tank which brought the quality of life down here.

Dr. Lewis in the Saltzer building in Nampa is accepting new patients. Associated with St. Luke's. We are happy so far.
