I think my smartphone GPS is trying to kill me. LOL. She keeps sending me in circles, down dead end streets, making a turn onto a one way road, going the wrong way! Even though I've been here a year there are times I still like to use it when I am in a new part of town. Are the stand-alone GPS devices better in Boise than the smartphone apps? Or is there so many road changes here GPS can't keep up? Or, is my phone really tying to off me? LOL
Hate the GPS. Relocated to a new county and needed to take my friend to the airport in the new county. Having never lived here before of course was not fimilar with the roads/highways. Sooooo I stupidily placed my confidence in the GPS. Long story short - it took me 30 miles out of the way through middle of two cities, DOZENS of stoplights and SIGNS. Later, I discovered that GPS took me the LONGEST way possible. Still believe the GPS system was designed for these types of routes to provide store merchants with profits. Yeah, I'm THAT mistrusting...
I just drove Washington, The Clearwater Valley in Idaho and western Montana and my Garmin Drivesmart 51 I got off eBay for $99 performed flawlessly. You can update it wirelessly via wifi. Comes with a suction cup mount and it has voice command. Pairs with your cell phone for hands-free calling and it tells you when to turn etc. Acquires satellites super fast. Best $99 ive spent in a while!
WAZE (free app) has always been awesome. I use it around here all the time, and don't remember it giving me bad directions except once. I was trying to find a batting cage facility for a lesson for one of the kids, and I had to call the guy on the phone and he said that happens to everyone.
Google works good for me. If I am going to a spot with poor cell reception, user HERE Maps, lets me download a state.
Used it to navigate all through Europe this past spring and it worked great.
Can you give me some more info on this ap? The full name and developer/publisher. Sounds like one to have. I like the idea of having Euro maps downloaded to a phone/device.
What app are you using? Google Maps is probably one of the best, never had any real issues with it. Waze is good too, though it's more focused on real time stuff like routing around traffic (sometimes that works well, sometimes it tries to do things that don't end up helping).
