Unhappy boise or eugene oregon

Hello everyone
well the time has come to move and we still have a few questions--- before we leave this desert
1) would you choose eugene oregon over boise and why
2) which city has more potential for work
3) which has better wages?
4) which has more tourists or convention people visiting?
5) which has better climate
6) I am assuming eugene is greener than boise - but can you grow gardens and enjoy greenery in Boise all year long too..

any help is appreciated - we all like the water (lakes or oceans). a bit of snow is okay, like farmers markets and fresh foods, like live downtown cores, want to be able to walk the neighborhood at night with the dog, bike ride, camp, fish - just enjoy life in a freindly place with friendly people
thanks for all your help...

I think you'd have to tell us a little more about what you want - they're quite different places.

1.) I'd choose Boise over Eugene, for quite a few reasons, but I don't think you could go wrong with either.

2) Boise probably has more potential for work - it's a large metro area, more job options, etc.

3) Depends on what sector you're working in. Eugene has higher wages than Boise, but if you're a middle class professional you could probably do better in Boise. But again, it depends on what sector you're in.

4) I don't know. I'd think Eugene, because of the proximity to the coast, Portland, I-5, and the Cascades.

5) If you don't mind rain and cloudy days, Eugene no contest. It's much more "mild" than Boise. However, it can affect a lot of people who aren't used to not seeing the sun for long stretches of time. Coming from Arizona I would guess that for you Boise has better weather.

6) Yes. Boise has quite a "green" feel during the spring and summer months, because of the trees and the river. It almost feels southern, to me at least. But yeah, you can grow gardens and you have a green yard. Things usually turn brown in late October/early November, and don't get green until about late March. During the summer months the foothills and desert are really brown/yellow, but you hardly notice it.

Boise has water access (the river, a lake, a reservoir, and many nearby rivers and lakes). It has farmer's markets, it has a walkable downtown core, and it's a safe place where you can walk your dogs at any time.

Coming from Arizona the only thing that might get you is the cold. It stays pretty cool here about six months of the year. Not cold, but cool. It gets to be jacket weather in October, with pretty cool nights. November isn't really cold, but it gets pretty cool. Snow generally begins to fall in mid December, and the temperatures will drop into the mid 20's - 30's, with a daytime average in the 40's or so. The days get pretty short, too (dark by 5, usually).

January gets really cold, and we had quite a bit of snow this year. It can get cloudy, you begin to miss the sun, and the weather starts to bear on you a bit. However, it's not midwest cold or snowy.

February oddly enough gets warm for a few weeks - you might even see 60. But then it drops back into the 20's/30's and you might see more snow. March stays pretty cool, but the clouds begin to leave and the sun starts coming out more. The wind picks up, though. This tends to last through mid April. The days get longer, especially after Daylight Savings Time. This helps break up the oppression of the colder weather, and people begin going outside. Still coat weather mostly, though.

Depending on the year May tends to get nice. Sometimes it gets to the 80's, other times it drops to the 30's. Some wind, some rain, but in general it gets nice.

June and July are gorgeous - absolutely amazing. The days are long (dark around 10:00 or a little later), the evenings are perfect, people are out and about. Great time to be here.

About mid July to mid August the heat starts getting up there - often in the mid 90's with a few days cracking 100. The dry heat is nice, but to me the sun becomes quite oppressive, perhaps because of the elevation. Usually very little relief during the noon-mid afternoon times. Evenings are still gorgeous. People usually are at the river or Lucky Peak.

September and October are simply perfect. Nothing more to say about them. Perfect falls.
