Anyone still remember the mini-twisters that would pull up a few shingles now and then. KTVB actually had a report about one after a wind storm last year.

When you see it coming, better close up the windows (and cover teh pool) - fast!

I too remember growing up during the 1970s and having the massive dust storms. There was a lot of residential commericial construction back then and they would grade large parcels under. After the spring dried out, the dust was ready for a big wind gust. I remember barely making it into the house one time before the big wall of brown dust came through.

As far as the original wind question, the last couple of years have seemed to have an increased amount of wind in the Spring. Combined with another La Nina event this year (usually indicates cooler than normal and more rain than normal), I think the increase of wind has been due to a greater amount of frontal impulses coming through. Basically, the transition period between when Low pressure system moves out and High builds in, you get wind.

I for one am not a fan of wind, but overall, Boise has relatively less wind than most other places. My wife is originally from Twin Falls and the wind blows there all the time it seems. My sister-in-law lived in Stewartville, MN for a couple of years, now you are talking wind. Usually, sustained 25mph or greater all summer long.

Luckily Boise doesn't really get tornadoes but they do get microbursts. I was at the Natatorium (public pool) several years ago and got hit with one. I am not a meterologist but I believe they are basically a burst of heavy winds pushing downward. At their worst I believe they've knocked over fences, smaller trees, and damaged roofs in the Boise Area. Seemed to be 1 or 2 major ones a year. They tend to be a little more common in the SE side of town while I lived there.

Where I just moved from in Orange County was windy all the time. Usually warm winds but heavy winds with gust to 100mph weren't uncommon. Havoc on my allergies and skin.

Holy cow! Forget the wind, we're having a hail/thunderstorm, torrential downpour like you wouldn't believe. It's looking like a flash flood down our street, LOL!

Geraniums are pretty hardy, but a couple of them got clocked pretty good; petals everywhere. Of course I just got done planting everything- tomatoes, etc, the pots out front. Figures! Just when I thought we were out of the woods.

But I'm always up for a good thunder and lightening storm!
