Downtown is getting mixed news. Interesting. The only North Face I know of down here in SoCal is in Beverly Hills. Fancy!

I dunno, says to me that the retailers are pretty confident in the direction that Boise is headed.

Here in NID, people are being careful with money, and SOME industries are hurting, but it's a much smaller dip for us here than a lot of places....that's for sure...

This is good news Torrie. The word around Boise is that downtown is very healthy and more economicaly viable than it ever has been. The retail and office sectors are growing and the entertainment sector is evolving and maturing and growing.
There has been some restaurant closures lately, but it happens downtown everytime the national economy goes bad. I don't see the recent restaurant closures as anything alarming at all. It happens and eventually new restaurants take the place of the ones which close---it always happens like this in downtown Boise. A restaurant will close and within a few months a new eatery takes the place of the closed eatery. I know personaly that one of the restaurants closing this week has nothing to do with the economy. The owner is simply taking on a new endeavour. Another restaurant, Gino's Grill is moving to Meridian which is a smart business move imo. Gino still has his landmark restaurant downtown and the relocated Grill will appeal to the suburbanites when it opens this Fall in Meridian. Word in the industry is that a few of the other restaurants which have closed in recent months is more because of bad management on the owners part rather then slow business. One of those restaurants which closed was always busy and reservations were almost always necessary, so I don't think the economy was to blame for their demise. But yes, I agree with you that downtown is booming and moving right along. There are still so many choices to eat at in downtown that it can take a while to decide where to go to dinner. Shopping is really securing downtown Boise as a destination. A store like North Face is going to do their homework before they open a store. It is obvious Boise meets their criteria with income levels. I am excited to see what other new retail will come to downtown Boise in coming years. |

I had heard the same thing about one of the restaurants closing and I have to agree, I don't think it was because of the economy. I'm also excited for what's to come...with retailers still interested in pursuing Boise, it just tells me we're only going to boom again in the future. Retailers wouldn't come to our area if they didn't think we had the "right kinda stuff" to make their business' rock. Ok Trader Joe's we're waaaitting!!!! ![]() |

Makes sense to me....I would think you might feel the affects of the economy more because you are smaller? Maybe not as diversified? I'm no economist, but it makes me wonder. I can understand the fear no matter where you're at!

mmmm, I don't think they were all because of the economy, not from what some of my sources are telling me. Easy to assume that, but just isn't the case for all of them. |

btw, Gino's is not closing up shop downtown as his original restaurant is still open and packed most evenings. He is simply relocating the Grill to a thriving suburb where good Italian food is badly needed to combat all of the chains in the burbs. Any guess on what will open in the space the Grill has vacated? I have heard rumors, but cannot share yet. Resturants are a tricky business to own, so a few closures is nothing alarming at all. There are more restaurants downtown now then there were two years ago. btw, I looooooooooove Chandlers. |
