Smile Boise Sports Teams

My wife and I are relocating to Boise from N. California next month. We have been Oakland A's fans, but aren't sure what team we should root for now? What team do you folks in Boise tend to follow? Kind of a silly question, I suppose, compared to the others. Thanks!

Mariners! Though they're not doing so great right now.

I would say Boise State for basketball and football, although they have no baseball. Probably the Mariners.

Why don't you keep rooting for the A's? You can watch their game with the Extra Innings package? I will keeping rooting for the Angels when we move to Boise.

I have looked at the sports scene in Boise and there are quite a few options.

The Hawks are a Class A affiliate of the Cubs.
There is an Arena Football team (AFL2 - the "minor" league of AFL).
There are minor league basketball and hockey teams. I'm not a fan so I can't tell you anything about them.
Plus, Boise State football and the other sports.
There is a new racetrack in Mountain Home that hopefully will get a NASCAR race.

I think I will attend more sporting events in Boise than I do in California because they will be closer and less crowded.

I would agree if you have always rooted for the A's, by all means keep supporting them!!

I find that I support the sports more than the teams anymore. My family originally came from the Los Angeles area (I've been in Idaho for 38 years) and I have always considered myself a Dodger fan and still follow them closely. My wife totally disagrees. Here family is a devout N.Y. Yankee family and that team is clear across the country. I give her a break since her dad used to play for one of the Yankee's minor league clubs, so I can see that.

Yes, we get FSN (I think it is Fox Sports Northwest) which transmits ALL the Seattle Mariners games, so it is easy to drift towards an alliance with the Mariners. I watch all of their games. I think some of the Satellite providers (Direct TV) as noted above still provide the major sports packages (MLB, NFL, etc.), so there are options for you to still watch all the Oakland A's games. I haven't made the jump to Satellite from cable, but would consider getting the MLB package when I do.

My wife's aunt moved to Boise a couple of years ago from Windsor, CA. They were advid S.F. Giant's fans and she still supports them, As well she should!!

The minor league teams here in Boise are great!! I bought a mini-ticket plan this year to the Boise Hawks and it has been fantastic. Have thouroughly enjoyed that. I only wish that they would move to AA or AAA or at the very least long season A. I can't believe an area with the Metro population that we have only has a short A season minor league club. Des Moines, IA has only 2/3 the population that Boise has and it has AAA ball.

Boise State football is also great IF you are fortunate to be able to get a ticket. The bad thing about BSU football is the ticket prices are often much higher than you can see an NFL game for and unless you are a season ticket holder, you may be out of luck. I imagine as the program grows, there will be very few general seat tickets available. It will not be hard to sell 30,000 season tickets every year at some point.

I am not an ice hockey fan, but have been to a few Idaho Steelheads games and they are exciting to.

Have yet to go to an Idaho Stampede or Boise Burn game. Something tels me I wouldn't enjoy the Burn games as much as indoor football to me is no different than playing in your own living room.

I would LOVE that proposed NASCAR track to become a reality; however, I have not heard anything on the project for over a year and notice there website is no longer available. I think this is the perfect area for a track as it is centrally located and the weather is great most of the time.

Boise has a mostly Pacific Northwest connection. You'll see lots of Mariners and Seahawks gear here. There's also a noticeable Utah connection with the Utah Jazz specifically. I haven't seen as much Colorado Sports (Broncos, Rockies etc) as I expected. Boise appears to be "Raider free" too! Thankfully.....

The second most popular baseball team, based on apparel, would be the Boston Red Sox. Lots of Red Sox Nation here.

I'm going to shift my interests to the Mariners/Seahawks and Portland Trailblazers.
