If driving north on Meridian Road it's dead straight in front of you? It's just about always covered in snow. What is it's name?

Default been wondering about that too!

Thank you! I am new to the area too and have been wondering what this peak was called. Seems like it is completely covered in snow, must be one of the higher peaks around. Beautiful!

Are you sure that's the official name? I seem to recall a decade ago or so that all of the "squaw" places were renamed for political correctness. Was I dreaming?

There is nothing politically incorrect about the word "squaw" although it has created some controversy. As with many nouns, squaw can be misused and its meaning skewed by certain people who want to portray it in an offensive way.

Squaw Valley ski area by Tahoe would have to rebrand itself if it had to change its name because of a crowd who considers the word non pc.

Some people may find this link interesting. Reclaiming the Word "Squaw"

A good way to see this mountain is to take a drive out of Emmett on the Sweet/Ola road which is at the eastern base of the mountain. It is a beautiful drive.

I agree there's nothing wrong with the word, but I honestly thought I read that the entire state of Idaho rebranded everything with "squaw" in it. Never heard that about Nevada.

Some people do call it Emmett Butte but as far as I know Squaw Butte is still the official name.

All the local peak baggers call it Squaw Butte as well. If you are in shape it is a great climb to the top. I've been to the top a couple of times.

any recommended routes/hikes in particular?

any that a person in moderate shape and of moderate ability (10-12 miles - roundtrip) could do as a day hike.

Thanks.
