Looking for additional information
Thanks for the information. I am also contemplating a move to the area within the next 4-6 months. My questions:
Are there any housing areas (names we might see on MS listings) to avoid due to safety, traffic or infrastructure issues? Any that might be worthy of particular recommendation?
Is there an adult ESL program in the metro area?
Can anyone recommend a good gun range/store? (Don't freak out, I am coming there for a couple of weeks in February to look around and like to practice regularly.)
I know I should have more questions, but have been in the area before (WA for a couple of years) and have already done considerable research on the economy, real estate and cultural situations.

I'll repost what I sent you so others can use this information should they need it.
Here's the information on the ESL school:
Puentes Spanish Immersion Preschool - Puentes Language Programs - Conversational Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, English - Spanish preschool, kids, adults, summer camps, more!
(208)344-4270.

For gun stores, here are a few:
Impact Guns Boise Idaho at Impact Guns Home
Boise Gun » Boise Gun Company
For gun range, look below or you can call the gun shops and they can refer you to all locations:
Range Information
As far as locations, try looking at SW Boise, S Boise, SE Meridian, or even Kuna. Try the areas South of I84. I live in SW Boise...what I like about living on this side of town is we have close access to the freeway, centrally located to shops on Eagle Rd or the mall, 15min. to downtown and 15-20 to the airport. Currently traffic issues have been minimal if at all for us. Not sure exactly what kind of atmosphere you're looking for, or what your needs are.....there are lots of great places to live in the Treasure Valley, we just chose the location we're in now for the reasons I listed above.

Well, I ended up in Meridian, out by Black Cat and Cherry roads.
Wal-Mart is about 6 minutes west, McDonalds/Albertsons 2 minutes east and I get the impression that everything necessary for life has an intersection with Cherry/Fairview road.
Anyway, I love it here so far!

SHould have mentioned I would be looking for an English teacher for a family member (non-Hispanic) and also a Russian teacher for myself. If anyone knows someone who teaches Russian in the area, I would appreciate it.

ESL classes for Adults
CWI (College of Western Idaho) http://www.cwidaho.cc/adult-basic-education offers ESL classes for adults in Boise, Nampa and Caldwell areas - it doesn't matter what the native language is. Boise actually is a refugee re-population area and we have over 100 languages represented in the elementary schools. You should be able to find someone who can teach Russian. I would try craigslist.

I just responded in the previous post and wanted to add that I am Trudy, co-owner of Puentes, and we do not offer ESL at this time. The CWI (College of Western Idaho) has free ESL classes and realistically we can't compete. So I typically let anyone interested know about their program.

I used to teach ESL classes at Boise State a few years ago. At that time they had an extensive offering of classes.

BSU no longer teaches ESL - its CWI now
BSU used to offer the ESL classes but now with the transition to the community college CWI (College of Western Idaho) now handles the ESL program in the Treasure Valley.
