The ponds in the Boise-Eagle areas
There are several housing developments centered around ponds....I assume they feed off the Boise River, but am not sure......are ducks and/or mosquitos problems during warmer months?

Ducks and geese are plentiful, especially in the park areas. Their droppings can be problematic, but I'd rather have them around than not. Mosquitos are also a bother during the summer months, but nowhere near what you'd find elsewhere in the country. Gnats are more of a problem than mosquitos.

Thank you for your response, boisefan88.
We don't have much in the way of mosquitos in CA except in the areas of abandoned foreclosures...(well, backing up, you can get eaten alive during the summer around the lakes near Mammoth and a few near Tahoe if you aren't prepared, but not Tahoe itself).....county-employed vectors have a hard time getting out to spray all the pools because there are so many of them.
We have also learned to keep ducks out of pools as they are messy and destroy filtering systems in no time at all....I have a resin alligator head floating in mine....
We are by the Pacific.....my husband is having a hard time giving up the ocean and wants to see water from the house when we move to the Boise area.....but I am just not sure if I want to step into duck poo every time I go out into the back yard if I buy a house by a pond....

Yeah, ducks and geese are everywhere - at least in the Boise area. Not sure about elsewhere (but I'm also not sure there's a lot of ponds around here, either).

Are geese the big Canadian honkers or just the regular white kinds? My friend in Abingdon, VA has the honkers.....they even sit on grass near the grocery stores......I thought they were neat, but she said they're a nuisance.......

Hey Rickers,
You are a senior member and I'm a newbie, (on here anyway).....thanks for the initiation, Smarty......bring on the cadillac margaritas! ROFL!
Individuals can employ bug men for ants, termites, etc....i.e. Terminex
BUT YES, we have a few of our county tax dollars going towards vector services....they come out and set up bait for rats and spray abandoned pools for mosquitos, etc.... We don't have ponds or rivers in this immediate area.......just the ocean and a few man-made lakes in county parks that they 'stock' with fish, etc.... Ducks are attracted to the lakes, (and then, on to the backyard pools), but 'Fred' my resin alligator, scares them away. The white geese do not leave the lakes......and we almost never see any Canadian Honkers here unless they are flying overhead....
And animal control comes out when we have snakes in our garages, (they're all rattle snakes to me..bleh!), cougars in the development and bears in our jacuzzis.....our taxes pay for those guys, too.
