I find that poster to be very anti-growth, so yes, it's a bunch of hoopla.

I personally found it very humorous !!! I got a good laugh from it !! Though I did hear rumors that as each California family leaves , it does open the door to a NEW California family to come in . Kind of like the lottery for MJ's funeral !

<ps....I heard today that were 2 new openings better HURRY B4 they're gone >

Pretty funny stuff....yeah. Again, I think about 70% of NID people CAME from California in the past 25 years...but once they hit the "decade mark" as a resident here they have the right to talk about "those damn Californians!!"...

Gee, what a surprise! Torrie the real estate agent thinks my obvious joke of a comment is negative because it's anti-growth. The thing is, our decade-long mass infestation of Californians didn't spur growth: it simply propogated sprawl and laughably high home prices. Growth is a positive thing, and I challenge you to name something that's better in Boise now than it was 10 years ago. You simply have a vested interest in what you euphamistically call growth because it's your meal ticket.
One more thing you're not gonna like, while I'm atop my soapbox: the only good thing to come of this recent recession is that it might bring Boise home prices back down to a reasonable level, and also stave off us getting Californicated any further.
p.s. $10 says you're from Cali! LOL

How about the lives of numerous families and people that have come to Boise and found work and made a better life for themselves ... Did you ever think of that..

Drummerboy ...
We came from CA and did NOT cause or contribute to sprawl in any way.
--- we purchased an existing house

We didn't cause prices to go up either
--- we rented for a year, waited for prices to drop and purchased a home for 80K less than listed and almost 160K less then several currently on the market within blocks of us (which have already dropped a lot) these are not grossly overpriced homes either ... they are at about $108 - $130 per square foot ... in a very nice neighborhood.

I'll name several things that are better here since ten years ago.

I'm here and so is my family

So are several great new friends I've met who are from CA, AZ, UT and South Carolina
The people on this board who offer great advice and intelligent responses in honest support for those seeking to relocate.
Microguy, HDL, Sage, Torrie, CaliforniaCarl, Boiseguy and countless others - shed some wonderful light and insight on Boise before our relocation a year and half ago.
I can honestly say - they were ALL right on the money with their comments and view points ... regardless of where they originated.

Additionally ... I like the new twist in Art many of these transplant have brought to the area. Many of us are green ... which helps the environment. Many of us are family oriented, like to spend money, are social ... this adds to a fun feeling of community and the economy.

I could go on ... but, what do I know. I'm just a newbie to boise having only been here a year and a half.

Lighten up ... We all belong the the human race ... not a race of states.
It is our right in this country to seek a place we can call home ... I'm sorry if you were here first and feel trampled on.
However, If we go back over a hundred years, Easterners came in droves out West in search of better land and homes ...
and they trampled on the native americans who were here even before your family ...

so in reality ... we are ALL in the same boat.
I am sure your Boise of 10 years ago is a bit different from Boise in 1834 when the Hudson Bay Company built "Fort Boise"
I'm sure the fur trappers of the 1800 would think Boise circa 1960 was sprawl - big time.

The realtors then inflated the local home prices to an amount that the Cali market would bare, but these overpriced houses were beyond the reach of working class locals looking to buy.
Second reason I don't give a fig for the plight of the realtors: I am attending BSU this summer to get my MA in Political Science, and i was reading a book on top Political Action Committees (PACs) in the U.S. the other day. Guess which group gave more money to their selected candidates than ANY OTHER IN THE COUNTRY, except three? The National Association or realtors, that's who! Doncha see? They lobbied for deregulation of mortgage interest rates, and were granted that leguslation. Hence the subprime mess we're in.
So this whole deal is just a sort of "you made your own bed now lie in it" thing. I am Jack's smirking revenge!!
