Drummerboy ...
We came from CA and did NOT cause or contribute to sprawl in any way.
--- we purchased an existing house
We didn't cause prices to go up either
--- we rented for a year, waited for prices to drop and purchased a home for 80K less than listed and almost 160K less then several currently on the market within blocks of us (which have already dropped a lot) these are not grossly overpriced homes either ... they are at about $108 - $130 per square foot ... in a very nice neighborhood.
I'll name several things that are better here since ten years ago.
I'm here and so is my family
So are several great new friends I've met who are from CA, AZ, UT and South Carolina

The people on this board who offer great advice and intelligent responses in honest support for those seeking to relocate.
Microguy, HDL, Sage, Torrie, CaliforniaCarl, Boiseguy and countless others - shed some wonderful light and insight on Boise before our relocation a year and half ago.
I can honestly say - they were ALL right on the money with their comments and view points ... regardless of where they originated.
Additionally ... I like the new twist in Art many of these transplant have brought to the area. Many of us are green ... which helps the environment. Many of us are family oriented, like to spend money, are social ... this adds to a fun feeling of community and the economy.
I could go on ... but, what do I know. I'm just a newbie to boise having only been here a year and a half.
Lighten up ... We all belong the the human race ... not a race of states.
It is our right in this country to seek a place we can call home ... I'm sorry if you were here first and feel trampled on.
However, If we go back over a hundred years, Easterners came in droves out West in search of better land and homes ...
and they trampled on the native americans who were here even before your family ...
so in reality ... we are ALL in the same boat.
I am sure your Boise of 10 years ago is a bit different from Boise in 1834 when the Hudson Bay Company built "Fort Boise"
I'm sure the fur trappers of the 1800 would think Boise circa 1960 was sprawl - big time.
