Default Anywhere in Nampa/Caldwell to get vinyl records?

I have been getting into old LP's lately but the hard part is finding the good ones. There are plenty of places around here to find stuff that was crap then and still is (The carpenters, Religuous hymns, christmas music and so on) But I was looking for stuff like Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin and so on.

I know about the bookstore in nampa that has a fair collection, but the stuff I want is always long gone by the time I can get there. There are also people who try and sell old albums for $200+, when the exact same thing is $15 on ebay...

I asked about Nampa and Caldwell because I am in Caldwell and I pretty much refuse to fight the traffic all the way to Boise and back over an album- it's ridiculous.

Thanks

Hi Cleatis, well you stumped me! I don't know any stores around you..but I had a thought..you might want to advertise on something like craigslist to see if people have some that they've stowed away somewhere...just a thought

Granted you'd have to come to Boise, but I've seen ads/articles about the Idaho Vinyl Preservation Society. They meet once a month in downtown. If you want to mingle with the hardcore crowd, this is gonna be your best bet. Here's an article about them with contact info:

Cleatis! How ya be? Ramenfan just answered your question for you. I don't live in Idaho but I visit the Idaho forum from time to time.

The Idaho Vinyl Preservation Society of Idaho has been going on, looks to me, for a couple years. Pull up their website. I'm not sure if the meetings are monthly or every other month but they have well over 150 members. I wanted to attend their meeting this month but couldn't make it.

I think the hotel they meet is called the Modern Hotel, it's in Boise's Linen district. They set up tables in the meeting room, have a brief discussion on various subjects, like what new releases are coming out on vinyl, any new stores opening up in the rocky mountain area, who's been scoring cool stuff on e-bay and who is running into shady dealers, etc. After that, they have a record swap! Lots of people bring vinyl in to buy, sell, and trade. It's a good deal for the collector!

Last month I had a good discussion with one of the club honchos who lives in Boise. The last time I was in Boise was 1999, and the only store I am aware of is the Record Exchange. The time I was there before that was 1992, and there was another store, but don't remember the name. As much as Boise has grown, there is not a doubt in my mind that the area can't support another shop .

I believe last November the club had their first full blown record show, whether it was at the Modern I'm not sure, but when you googled in the Vinyl Pres. Society, a number of media online sources popped up relaying info on the show, from the Boise paper (is that the Idaho Statesman?), the CBS tv affiliate in Boise, and some other sources. After the record show was over some of those ads were taken off the board. From what one of the members told me the show went real well. Check out their site, you'll be GLAD you did!

Any other questions- send me a pm, would be glad to help as I would like to get up there to one of those meetings myself!
