Question Question on Garden City

Hello All,

Currently, my family and I live in Coeur d'Alene and we are seriously contemplating a move to the Boise area. Our move to the Boise area is motivated by two factors - our older (adult) children moving to Boise and better employment opportunities.

We still have three teenagers at home, so good schools are definitely a consideration. Another important factor is safety. We moved to Idaho from a small town in New England where we could (and did) leave our doors unlocked often. Although, we live outside of the city of Coeur d'Alene and we feel safe, there are definitely parts of the city of CdA that I would steer clear of during the evening hours.

We have gone house hunting several times in the Boise area and absolutely love the foothills of Boise. We saw lovely homes in the the foothills, but they are very pricey ($700,000 and up). While house hunting, we saw a home in Garden City that we really liked. It is in a small gated community off of Marigold not far from City Hall. The high school indicated on the listing sheet is Eagle High, which I understand has a good reputation.

I have researched Garden City some and know there is a part of Garden City that is more problematic as far as crime is concerned. I would appreciate any feedback on Garden City (in general) and the Marigold area (in particular). Any thoughts/input regarding moving to that area would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance~!!

Don't move to Garden City. True it is it's own incorporated city, but it it mainly industrial (car lots, storage, auto parts stores, bad trailer parks). It has the nickname "Garbage City". True, some parts of it are nicer with some upscale condos along the river. Most of it is dumpy. My wife and I tried to take a short cut one day through a crummy neighborhood and wound up in a really nice, new condominium complex. We though... "Here? Really? Why?" There are plenty of other places in the area to choose from that are not $700,000+.
