I've heard that Garden City is supposed to be undergoing a major revitalization, is there any truth to this? I guess if the city is planning it it could take decades.

Anyhow, I lived near Garden City when I first moved to boise and it seemed to be fine, despite the constant bad rap (I've only lived here for six months so I don't know what it used to be like). It's basically a long strip with various subdivisions off to each side; some nice, some...well...not. Check it out and have a look.

Well, I think that is fairly typical in Idaho. Sports and machoism before arts and music. That's why I urge caution to families moving from good school districts in California or elsewhere to a school district in Idaho. I know in Boise each high school tends to specialize in a certain strength, I can't speak for the Meridian school district.

Default Garden City is going through a Revitalization

It is really exciting to see the growth and new interest being energized by everyone in Garden City's future. The green spaces, new business and housing areas are all getting attention. Planning in all aspects are being addressed with a comprehensive plan already complete and on Garden City's website.

Chinden Blvd will always be a busy business center but everything North of Chinden is being addressed in the plan. But even on Chinden the entrances to the City limits are getting a face lift. Definitely worth checking out.

Because of Garden City's location it could be a great place although I've always felt it should be absorbed into Boise but I'm sure that would be a huge political and legal battle. Anywho, I know when I left the area they were talking about moving the fairgrounds and making the land at Chinden/Glenwood a large mixed use project. Basically a Downtown Garden City.

GC really isn’t that bad. There a good parts of it (say, area near Marigold/new City Hall), and there are bad parts of it. I, for one, live in a “bad” part of that “bad” town for 8 years now, and really never had any problems with crime. I’ve heard they shot a cop in the arse couple years back. There was much rejoicing and jubilation all across the Treasure Valley.

P. S. By the way, there are parts of Nampa that are much worse than GC, but everyone loves to give our little place a bad rap.

Only gripe I have is absense of parks and recreation around Chinden. Yea, there are couple parks near by right off Ustick and Northview, and one across the river (Willow Lane), and I can bike to downtown Boise parks by greenbelt in 20 minutes, but it would be nice to have some rec facilities right by.

Change is on the way to Garden City.

There is also a new artist district in the works, and a few galleries have already set up shop. I will try and find a link for this info.

Don't move to Garden City. It is the armpit of Boise.
