I graduated there a few years ago. Pretty diverse economically some rich people some poor immigrants a lot of in between. The sports are pretty good except football which is always lousy. It is pretty competitive academically in the state as well.

From my research, the best high schools in Boise are Boise High and Timberline followed by Capital and then Borah. Centennial HS in Meridian/West Boise has very good scores as does Eagle HS in Eagle.

Depends on what you are looking for. Boise and Timberline are definitely the best overall for academics. That's not to say that Borah and Capital aren't up to par but you do have more options for academics at Boise and Timberline (ie more AP courses and career tracts). Borah does have an excellent athletics and drama/theater department though.

Borah is a wonderful school with many great teachers. I worked there for a semester and it was hard to leave.

I'm Class of 1972, Borah. My three years there were quite literally "the best three years of my life"! We of '72 were around 600 strong at graduation; entire school was almost 2000 -- largest H.S. student body in Idaho. Academically Borah recently ranked in Top 5% nationally. Above, jufrbo said sports "pretty good except football which is always lousy". NOT! From 1958 thru 1966 under first coach, the legendary Ed Troxel, the Borah Lions were mythical State Champs every year except one (mythical runner-up that year). My Senior year Capital beat us on our Homecoming, to stop a 34-game win streak. This sole loss of my 3 years still didn't prevent Lions from repeating as mythical Idaho Champs, which allowed us to accept Hawaii's invitation for Idaho to send best team to play theirs. We proceeded to beat Punahou (priv. sch. in HI) something like 27-10. The football Lions also had a couple undefeated seasons later on, and first three years of a playoff to determine a de facto State Champ, Borah played chapionship game, winning twice. No, Borah football hasn't always been lousy -- in my time was probably our greatest pride!

Oh, and I remember reading on the Web (Wikipedia, I think, which alas! has a bad reputation on accuracy), that the last school year in which the Lions football team won State (1990s?) the varsity basketball team also took State, as did Track and Field - plus the baseball team finished high too. Idaho State Champions in three major atheltics in one school year -- IMPRESSIVE! Particularly for one who my Senior year was Manager on Varsity Basketball team and then Manager on Track and Field.

Wow, I'm from Hawaii, and that Punahou team was pretty damn good, they would feature Kale Ane, Arnold Morgado both played for the KC Chiefs and Mosi Tatupu USC and NE Patriots.

Agreed. My mom attended in the seventies and remembers the Dee Pankratz years. I know Borah is a great team historically. But if I remember right the last only year Borah officially won the title was 1981 or 1982. Since at least the nineties, Borah has been pretty bad. I think it was 2000 when they last made the playoffs and that was by the skin of there teeth. I played there under Koetter and had one good team but we couldn't pull off the win.

That same year though we took state in men's basketball, baseball, mens' x-country and both men's and women's track and field.

It would be nice to see Borah do well again in football, but it could be a while.

Dee Pankratz is BORAH HIGH football. I played for the man on the first ever state champ football team (1979) where we whipped Boise High 38 -0. Some of the greatest athletes from Borah are in that class. Randy Holmes, Darren Corpus *Borah's current head coach, Jake Jacoby, Dan Cambron, Todd Erickson, and I'll include a guy I know really well... Vaughn Call. Pankratz was the best coach (even over and above my college football coaches) I ever had. We did not know what it meant to lose as we only experienced one loss (to Capitol 28-27) in our careers. Borah has changed as Bosie itself has changed. When Pankratz left, the legacy left. That is not to say there have not been good coaches and I believe that Darren "writ of habeus corpis" Corpus can turn this team around! Borah is a great school - has a rich history - has great teachers and great students. Lion Pride!
