Hi all,
I am relocating to Boise and will need a checking/savings account there. I have had some bad experiences with my bank in my current place, basically when I ran into a problem (due to a mistake of mine admittedly) they treated me like **** and not like a customer who has had an account with them for 9 years. So i would love to hear your experiences about the banks in Boise. Which ones should I avoid - bad customer relationships, hidden costs everywhere etc.? Which ones are good?
thanks already...

With what's going on right now....I would suggest a credit union or a local bank.

I use to have a WaMu account I liked, still have but now they're Chase and I am less impressed with the different nuances. The tellers all know me at the downtown branch which is nice however.

I'm a huge fan of Washington Trust Bank.

I dropped Wells Fargo and took all my accounts to Wa Trust.

I have been extremely happy with Bank of the Cascades. They have a lot of decision-making power at the branch level.

Except many in the industry say that smaller banks are more at risk of failing than the majors. Depends on the bank, I guess.

I like US Bank. They have a strong presence in Boise, and they have consistently been in decent financial shape. They also seem reasonable with their fees, and I have found them to treat me with respect.

I've been very happy with Idaho Central Credit Union, if you're interested in a credit union recommendation...

Except they want to charge you $37.50 for an overdrawn check. Yikes!

We really like Pioneer Federal Credit Union!

US Bank is good if you want to still have the convenience of a national chain (ie accessability for travel). If you just want a good solid local bank (they have locations all over the state though) I strongly recommend Idaho Central Credit Union (aka iccu) as they are excellent to deal with and won't outsource your money to people all over the country and they often have among the best rates for interest. Every one is friendly and treats you with courtesy and respect.
