Appreciate all the feedback. Not sure things are any clearer for us but we will continue to think about it. Folks say $900 per week gross would be better than $1,500 per week gross here in San Diego.........but that comes down to almost $2,600 LESS a month in Boise. We can't imagine Boise is that much cheaper to live to justify the income cut. We will probably just stay here and take the safe road. Thanks all
Wow...In my humble opinion, that's just too steep of a pay cut to absorb. If the Boise salary were, say, $60,000 or so, I'd say maybe go for it to escape SoCal, but, the thing is, Boise's just not as cheap to live in as it was 10 or more years ago. We have experienced tremendous growth and sprawl and higher home prices and property taxes, due in a large part--and I mean no offense here--to a huge influx of Californians since the early '90's. As much as we would love to have you, I would simply have to decline the offer if I were you.

I have to agree with you drummerboy 100%. I guess we were just hoping it would work out so we could escape the rat race down here but money is money and we would rather be somewhat comfortable here than to move anywhere else and struggle. Take care.
I think you can do it if you buy a home in the $110-120,000 range (are there any in that range anymore?). Maybe rent for a awhile and save for a large downpayment. CA has condo's I'm not sure if Boise has many available yet. A lot of it is how determinded you are to make it work. I'm familar with your scenaro because that is what we made when we moved her from CA. back in '94. We were a family of 4 too.
Thank you for that info. I am not sure which one to go by though....I have run the numbers on CNN Money's calculator and Sterlings Best Places calculator and now this one.....One said $50,000 the other said $54,000 and this one says $66,000! How can anyone know and trust which one is more accurate? I am more confused when I look to these sites for assistance......
