Yes you get what you pay for.... a beautiful area with out much crime unlike Nampa and Caldwell. At least Boise doesnt smell like the Sugar Beet factory that is reason enough to not live in Nampa for me! I'm sprry if this is blunt but I do not like Nampa or Caldwell.

Nampa and Caldwell are in a different county, which may seem minor, but it makes a huge difference. Canyon county Is almost an entirely different state. Boise and the surrounding area have a sense of culture, where Nampa and Caldwell really don't seem to have that, or at least on the same scale. They are much more industrial. Boise has a lot to do and see, there are many parks to get lost for hours in and there is a general sense of some kind of culture to take in. Canyon county doesn't have any of that "fru-fru" stuff. That's the 2C mindset - just go to work and watch TV and go to Wal-Mart that's life in Canyon County.
Nampa and Caldwell are pretty much just the low rent district of the valley. Anyone who looks can see that Canyon county is the place for the poor. I'm sure I'll catch some flack for that but oh well. Any time you look in the poor part of town you'll find the criminal part of town.

You bet there is. Boise seems to have more to offer than most other small to mid size cities. The parks here which cleatis mentioned are among the nicest I have seen in any size of city.

Such as? Compared to where?
I always hear people say this, but it's never explained.
(I don't doubt Boise has nice and plentiful parks - I know it does - I'm more interested in the comparison)

Compared to Canyon county, yes, there is much more to offer. Canyon county seems kind of... culturally illiterate - for lack of a better term.

Really? Compared to what? Melba??
Boise's culture consists of Alive at Five in the summer, it's one mall, and the two block area of Hyde Park. Give me a break.
Please tell us what exactly you are comparing 'the things to do' to? Please share the cities you have lived in as comparison.
I am comparing to suburbs of Boston, Norfolk, San Antonio, and Macon GA.
Not a slam on Boise, we enjoyed our stay...but as far as things to do...well, we don't ski or camp, so we found ourselves limited.
If folks consider Cabela's a cultural hot spot--Boise is your Town!

Serious? Canyon County has more culture going on 12th Street than the entire city of Boise.
Just throw it out...you don't like the Hispanic culture. Don't be bashful, please exaplain what you consider culture?

Remember that I did use the qualifier "For lack of a better term" I can't describe what culture is, who can?
Please do not assume that I have a problem with Hispanic culture, as you so blatantly pointed out they have plenty of it. But most of us in this part of Idaho will know that this isn't exactly a culture that everyone is willing to embrace. The fossils that have lived here for 3 or 4 generations despise the Hispanic culture and see it more as a pandemic than anything. The "Culture" that existed here before is hardly what one would call culture.
As best as I can describe it I would say that culture is the arts. It's what defines a community beyond a job or an economy. It's a shared sense that makes the difference between living in a city full of strangers and living in a community. It's the difference between where you spend your life, and where you live.
I don't know how to define culture, it's not something static that can be wrapped up to a T with words.
The "culture" I speak of that Boise has and Canyon county lacks in can't be summed up any easier. I can say that Boise has more parks, that are larger and have more to offer. Boise has an art museum, a zoo An awesome downtown that people actually go to. Nampa and Caldwell don't have that, at least to the same scale. What would people go to downtown Caldwell for? There's a pseudo head shop run by a crackhead who only opens the store for a weekend every blue moon, a bank, some bars. The kings is shutting down, the Youth Ranch moved away.

Oh my, another uninformed forum troll. You assumed another forumer does not like Hispanic culture just because that forumer said there is not much culture in Canyon County? wow. You are not making much of an impression after invading the Boise subforum imo.
You think there is more going on at 12th Street in I assume Nampa or Caldwell then all of Boise? wow. You must be the type of person who really enjoys Cabelas then. I myself will stick with North Face and Idaho Mountain Touring in downtown Boise.
