I looked at his profile. Hasn't posted since 2010 and was worried he was too liberal for Orange County, CA.

The OC people even asked him why he mentioned he was liberal, curious why he thought it would make a difference.

Unless you're smoking weed while having gay sex and yelling "Higher Taxes!" in your front yard I don't think it'd be a problem. (Use the back yard. )

People in Idaho are not very open to outside ideas and there is a great hatred of liberals. I am a right-wing Conservative and even a lot of the good ol boys here call me a "libtard", because I shop at the co-op and recycle. ANyway, in the eastside, downtown, North End, you will find a lot of liberals and the people there are friendly and open-minded. I am an Oregon Conservative and don't make the Idaho Conservative grade, I guess you can say. So, I generally hide among the liberals in these areas. I have never been to a state where people are so polarizing and chastise you for not "BEING LIKE THEM". However, I have found the more liberal population here friendly. Maybe, because many are from other places or they are just so much polar opposites from the rest of people in the state. I don't know.

Anyway, this is my opinion.

P.S. Don't mention to people you are from California, if you can help it. Just say you move around a lot..

I don't think there is a great hatred for liberals lol. There are plenty of libs and conservatives in Idaho to create a nice balance.

The big problem, for me at least, is with the legislature more so than the average individual. This year even moderate republicans were saying that they no longer have a say in the government because it's shifted so far to the right. In real life I generally don't discuss politics, plus I live in the Northend and work downtown, so it's not much of an issue, but I will say that the legislative session can be embarrassing and frustrating to say the least. The cronyism and "good ol boy" network is alive and well at the capitol.

I do notice that people are less constrained when it comes to voicing their conservative opinions as they know that there is a good chance that they're surrounded by people with the same beliefs. In the previous cities I've probably would've been described as a moderate, but by Idaho standards I fall under the liberal umbrella. I would describe myself as very slightly to the right on fiscal issues and socially liberal, and all of us residents know how the state politicians feel about social issues.

I don't spend much time west of the Y, so things may be very different in other parts of the valley.

But we're not talking persecution here, it's more a "I want everyone to like me. I don't think those mean people over there like me" type thing.

You'll be tared and feathered and ridden out of town on a rail with an NRA cap stapled to your head.

Actually that was my experience living in the SF Bay Area-talk about intolerance for anyone who was not extreme left.

I think Boise is fairly conservative, but not like it used to be (the Steve Syms era etc) My family has lived in the area since the late 1800's and we still own farmland near Nampa. I get down there a few times a year and Boise is really becoming a melting pot of all kinds of different types-a great place IMO and has changed for the better. Actually many CA transplants like my nephew from Orange County are pretty conservative. Boise appeals to them.

Socioeconomics come into play.

Low-paying jobs go to Idahoans, good-paying ones to people from out-of-state.
