Makes me embarrassed about dog earing my book now.
Skeet, I'd be happy to show you mine. I understand your reluctance to commit without having gone for a test drive.

Barnes and Noble have the Nook. They should have one for demo purposes in one of their stores.

Target has Kindles on display and I'm pretty sure Best Buy does as well. I thought I heard something about Staples but I'm not sure on that.

Yup, Staples just started selling them. That's where I got mine. The one, um, that I returned. But that's not the point.

I'm guessing that you didn't have a chance to test it out first, or you might not have purchased it.

I'd think Barnes and Noble would have an interest in demonstrating the Nook before you buy, since it's their own product. Especially in view of the competition with Kindle.

Yeah, it would be one of those products I kinda need to feel in my hands. I like online shopping and all, just need to see it at a store.

I love books too much to consider an e-reader to be a better alternative.

Y'know what's funny? I actually did test it out first. A gentleman who was sitting across the aisle from me on a plane was pleased as punch to show me how fabulous it was. My interest was piqued.

Of course, that wasn't enough, though, so I tested out my father-in-law's a few times. I read a few pages of his book, got to learn all the buttons, and got myself all excited about it.

After that, when I was good and ready (and couldn't wait a minute longer to have a Kindle of my own), my husband went to buy me one.

All was fine and dandy until I curled up on the couch with one of my books, and just couldn't feel the love.

I really think that it's because I sit in front of my laptop screen all day, reading/writing/editing technical material, pressing keys, and being all high-tech. At the end of the day, I need a TOTAL change of pace, and that's why I love my paper books so much.

I think the Kindle is FABULOUS! Absolutely AWESOME! And in addition to being a book fanatic, I'm a gadget fanatic. So you'd think that I'd love it. But it's just not for me at this point in my life. Maybe I'll feel differently when I stop working.

I think the reason that I purchased it is because I so very much WANTED to love it. Alas...

I'm going to assume you mean you love paper books too much to consider an e-reader. Because people who use e-readers love books (the content) just as much as you do, if not more so. As the article I just posted pointed out:

Quote:
Just 7% of online adults who read books read eBooks. But that 7% happens to be a very attractive bunch: they read the most books and spend the most money on books.
e-readers are particularly attractive to many heavy readers because the storage space is so much smaller.

Not better. An alternative. I don't know anyone with an e-reader who has given up reading print books. I don't feel it's an "either/or". Just different.
