Game of Thrones is an upcoming American medieval fantasy television series created by David Benioff and Dan Weiss for HBO. The series, based on author George R. R. Martin's best-selling A Song of Ice and Fire series of novels, chronicles the violent dynastic struggles among noble families for control of the Iron Throne of Westeros. The series will debut in April 2011.[2]

I read this a long time ago and don't remember specifics. Part of me wants to reread it, but that would ruin the series for me I think.
Hope HBO does a good job.

I'm not thrilled with what they did with True Blood and Charlain Harris' books. Don't get me wrong, TB is entertaining. But if they are going to change something that much they shouldn't claim a relationship to the books, its cheating.

I'm right in the middle of reading Game Of Thrones right now. Frankly I don't see how they can do it justice, GRRM's story is so intricate and involved.
Here's a peek at some of the cast:
Game of Thrones (TV Series 2010) - IMDb
Looks like they need more photos. They must be using new actors.
The wolves are too small for direwolves as I imagined them.
King Robert looks well-cast, about how I pictured him. Also Jon Snow.
Unfortunately we don't subscribe to HBO so I won't get to see it. But kudos to Benioff and Weiss if they can pull it off!

There are some more previews and "making of" on the 'net if you look around.

I'm certainly impressed with what I've seen so far. My only complaints so far is that Khal Drogo looks a bit too Harlequin romancey and the dire wolves look like malamutes.

heh
Amazon.com just sent me an email that my copy of the latest Martin book, A Dance With Dragons, would be arriving December 31, 2012.

We don't have HBO so it might be awhile before I get to see the film version.

I hope they don't use real wolves or wolf hybrids - I hate the use of wild animals, domesticated is bad enough in some ways.

Amazon posts a new release date every few months. I won't believe any of them until Martin himself announces, "I'm done." Which he hasn't.

Yes.
I actually keep forgetting about the book, and then I get these little reminders from Amazon.
I am not sure that either Martin or I will live to see the series finished!

At his current rate of production, the entire HBO series will have been on DVD for 10 years by the time he finishes the series.

Maybe instead of writing the books, he could write novelizations based on the TV series.

Some new pics are online: HBO - Making Game of Thrones

The dire wolves are pretty obviously Malamutes or Huskies.
