I finished the book on Sunday morning, and I thought that, all in all, it was quite well done. The deaths of so many was a little more shocking than I had thought was going to happen. But, if books turned out the way I thought they should, why bother reading them when I could be writing them.
JMO as always. Now, for a really dark series, might I suggest Jim Butcher's "Dresden Files". The books are so much more complex than the series on the SF channel makes out. That or Simon Green's Tales from the Nightside.

J.k Rowling does not disappoint! I thoruoughly enjoyed reading the book and it's by far my favorite from the whole series.
As far as the deaths, I was that surprised the most at Tonks and Lupin both dying. I assume that only one of them would die, especially since they had a child. The ones that moved me the most were Dobby and Fred. Harry digging a grave for Dobby was one of my favorite scenes.
The final attack on Hogwarts was also another favorite and like many of you have said, it was awesome seeing Neville be so brave that even his Grandmother was proud. I also loved seeing Professor McGonnagal (one of my favorite characters) take charge at Hogwarts.
Harry also recognizing how much Snape actually cared for him and his mother was also another moving scene.

I am also a bit disappointed about the "19 Years Later" section in that I thought all of them would be teaching at Hogwarts, and that one of them would be Headmistress or Headmaster. In fact, I really wanted to know what everyone's occupation now was. I am thinking, and feel free to let me know if you disagree, that all of those blank pages at the end of the book are somekind of symbol suggesting that their lives go on, and the reader is left to imagine what that is. Does that sound crazy? I have been reading for 6 hours straight, so I could be delusional at this point.

I was very disappointed with the epilogue as well. Besides defeating Voldemort, part of the series was to see how each of the main trhee characters matured and developed while attending Hogwarts. It would have been nice to see what all three of them ended up doing for a living.

Well obviously Harry Ron Hermirone and Ginny didnt end up as teachers because they'd be on the train or already at Hogwarts but I would like to think that Harry (definitley him) maybe ron and maybe Ginny would have become Aurors! i know Voldermorts dead but there's still crime in the wizarding world.....Hermirone is definitley something worth wild

I cried a little because of the deaths... especially poor Fred, Lupin and Tonks! I was a little upset that the 19 years later part, didn't contain much info on how George ended up, or who actually raised Lupin and Tonk's baby.
I loved how Neville was such a hero in the end! Great stuff, he really showed his power, didn't he?
I was also sad, that there was never a description of a kiss between Hermoine and Ron.
I was pleasantly suprised at the connection between Lily and Snape! Didn't see that coming, although we knew she defended him that one time, when James, Sirius, and Lupin turned him upside down in the air, and exposed his underpants! Snape turned out to be quite the hero really!
Super book!!!! It did not disappoint, and nothing major was left unanswered. I really hope that nobody attempts to continue the series with the children of all these people... it would ruin!!! J.K. Rowling said that she will "never say never" when it comes to an 8th book, but I hope she doesn't.
Now I am so looking forward to the final two films!

IS this the movie that came out this week? I will have to rent them. I only watched the first movie. It was good; but not for all adults. Kinda weird like the Tolkien fad was during the Acid years.

Oh, that's right! They had talked about being aurors in a previous book, so yes, that's a possibility. Perhaps after everything had been through, they just wanted to have normal, low key jobs, and be with their families???

I know Ron and Hermoine kissed.... it just wasn't the passion filled description I was hoping for!! I loved the description of Harry's kiss with Ginny on his birthday.
HeleenieWeenie: The most recent Harry Potter movie is called "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" This thread is about the final book in the series which just came out, called, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows."

I just read that the JK Rawling said on the Today show she is going to write an encylopedia on the HP books, and in that she will tell what happened to the characters. She said she had so many notes that had to be left out of the final book that they will fill in another book. So fans, there will be one more book!

That's so good to know. It was difficult to keep track of everyone in all the books. Sometimes I'd be reading and think "Who the heck is this character?" but just keep pushing through because I had to keep reading. I was also disappointed by the epilogue and glad to hear that Rowling is considering an encyclopedia. Although I have a feeling we'll either see it soon because she'll want to continue writing or we'll have a small wait because she needs a Potter break. I definitely want to find out what is the true story as to all the characters. If Ron was taking the Muggle drivers test, are he and Hermione living in the Muggle world or the Magical world? And what does everyone do? And if Victoire is a cousin to the Weasley's -- which Weasley is her parent???? Way to much left unsaid. JK Rowling: PLEASE write an addition to your epilogue!!!

I would bet that she is Bill and Fleur's daughter; the name sounded French to me anyway.
