I'm back again...reading fast these days! I just started "The Lizard Cage." It's a book discussed in "End of Your Life Book Club." Supposed to be excellent, so we'll see.

I tried to read that a few months ago and I couldn't get past the first few pages. I absolutely realize that that was the way they likely spoke, but it was so hard to read. I just took so much effort that I gave up.

The Killer of Little Shepherds by Douglas Starr - a non-fiction book describing the beginnings of forensic science based around the French serial killer Joseph Vacher
The Count of Monte Cristo - I'm supposed to have read about 400 pages by Saturday. I'm up to page 105

Kabul Beauty School. I don't know why, but I'm just not "feeling it." I'm only on the second chapter so I'll give it a bit more time, but it's just not hitting me in that spot. It could be the book, it could be me -- I don't know.

Ooh, that's another to add to my to list. There are so many books that I read in school that I either don't remember or feel like I should give them another chance.

Also on that list would be Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man, The Sound and the Fury, and even The Great Gatsby, Grapes of Wrath and Of Mice and Men. I also kinda wanna give another go at A Tale of Two Cities...maybe read some more Dickens while I'm at it.

Yes, I can see that. I think it was an issue for me the first time I read it (very distracting) but this time around, it really hasn't bothered me.

Hmmmm. Good to know. I might give it another try when I have more patience. My concentration right now is next to nil, so I'd be setting myself up for failure.

I have this book and have started and given up. I'll try again someday.

David Guterson's "Our Lady of the Forest". Wonderful characterizations of ordinary people.

True Haunting by Edwin F. Becker. An interesting read and hard to put down. If you like real stories, it seems impossible you'll be disappointed.
