I donate all my books to Goodwill after I let my friends select what they want.

Why?

I did my field work in college (social work) for a semester at Goodwill Industries. I know what that organization does with the money. I know that any money my donations generate goes to a good cause.

If you are unhappy with book prices at Goodwill then don't go looking for books there. I can't believe you are complaining when you scored a rare book at the very place you are knocking.

Exactly and I also think that it does have something to do with location as well . i know around the corner goodwill from me books are 1.99 for hardbacks , .99 for paperbacks and then the store across town from me they charge 2.99 for hardbacks and 1.99 for paperbacks .

That's cheaper than most books at stores that are devoted to used books.

Our local Goodwill stores charges .99 for paperbacks and 1.29 for hardbacks. They don't distinguish between new releases, rare or old ... all the same price. On Tuesday's they have Senior Citizens day and offer 25% off.

I donate all my books to Goodwill.

They are way cheaper than the used book store.

Whether or not I shop there, I would still have the same opinion that the store is charging too much for a bunch of used books. This doesn't change anything I've said.

How did I take advantage of a charity? I did them a huge favor by purchasing two of their overpriced books when they're piled high with them.

Goodwill is getting too high these days, on all their items (even here in Arizona).

you didn't do them a favor.

you bought a couple of books you wanted.

you engaged in a fair transaction and helped a charity out.

seriously, i don't see a problem. goodwill book prices vary by store, and they often have sales on different items weekly or even daily, including books. if the price bothers you, wait until your book goes on sale-unless someone else gets to it first.

Is that how you see it? Buying something and supporting a charity is your definition of doing them a huge favor? With $8 worth of books, one of which was a rare book you gloated over snaring?

I did not gloat; I merely illustrated the only reason why I would pay $5 for a used book at Goodwill.

They have more books there then they know what to do with and they are scrwen all over the place in the book section. Many go back months and just sit there. This might have something to do with the fact that they're charging $5 for books and $2 for mass market paperbacks. Trust me, I did them a big favor. Sales at this goodwill are fairly rare. Their idea of a sale is buy 4 and get one free.
