There is a group of people(amateurs) who write free pieces (stories, novellas) for the Kindle in the style of Twilight, Harry Potter, etc.

This woman, the author, wrote some/an erotic Twilight piece. She had a certain popularity, and so started this trilogy which had a following and she
managed to sell them on Kindle.

They really took off. I read articles about women on the Upper East Side (society types) secretly reading these things. They were not available in paper and those who wanted them/ordered them would have to pay hundreds of dollars for a special printing.

As word spread (they are supposed to be addictive and women all over are saying they could not put them down), they hit it big on best seller lists, and she struck a deal with a British publisher (she is Australian) for several million and they are now coming out in paperback.

That's the best that I can do now. Hope that helps.
There is talk about this being a new genre, so I don't think it is typical romance stuff that never attracted me.
Well, that's A LOT of information and, geez, you're making me maybe kinda sorta want to read them now. Oh God, I hope I don't give in to the temptation. The good news is that the wait list for the first of the trilogy is long -- 13 or 15 people are already waiting. I won't put myself down on the wait list, but if you tell me that this is among the best books you've ever read, I may reconsider. BUT I STILL WON'T READ HARRY POTTER, HUNGER GAMES, TWILIGHT, ETC... No, I won't.

I never read those. I tried Potter, but have a problem relating to the kid.

It's just that so many women seem to find these addictive, and I liked Sleeping Beauty. They are supposed to be available in April, and I can wait because I have a few books to read first.

It's good to read of people making money these days.

I'm in the middle of it. Not sure that I like it. Something to do with her writing, I don't know. I'll make a final decision when I finish.

Dawn, the Harry Potter books are fantastic. FANTASTIC. I wasn't so sure about them when I read the first one but I was hooked immediately. I'm going to re-read the series again, for about the 5th time, because I love them so much. And I'm NOT a fiction or a fantasy person.

Y'know what? Since I wrote that previous post, I remembered that I read the first Harry Potter and part of the second. That was plenty for me. I'm not saying that they're not good stories or good writing -- they are, I know that they are -- but they're just not my thing. I don't do magic, fantasy, dystopia, mysticism, etc... well at all. I love memoirs and I like fiction that *could* be a true story -- other than that, I just don't "feel it."

I think things happen that we do not at present have an explanation for, so I guess you could call me a believer in the mystical. I used to love sci-fi and fantasy, but not so much any more. I guess some strange things have happened to me and they in no way have satisfying explanations in what I have read of these fictional offerings. I could not plod my way through the first Potter book. I did like the first book of the Hobbit series, but not the rest.

My favorite thing about the HP series is how the books got exponentially BETTER as the series progressed. Most of the time, in my opinion, books in long series kind of grow stale or go downhill.

I heard of the Fifty Shades of Grey thing; didn't appeal to me.

I plodded my way through all the Harry Potter books (my sister worked at a bookstore at the time and she got them at a low price for herself, passed them along to me) and I thought they were okay but I didn't get the fuss about them.

As far as Fifty Shades of Grey, what I've read about it, it sounds like Anais Nin, Delta of Venus, only with better writing. I read a couple of online reviews and saw reviews in the papers, but even people who liked the book didn't seem to have anything good to say about the writing. Anyone read both Delta of Venus and Fifty Shades of Grey and are they as similar as they sound to me?

I didn't want to read 50 Shades. I thought it sounded horrible, but I finally gave in and ordered it b/c I was needing something to read. I ended up ordering and reading the entire trilogy twice in one weekend. It was THAT good to me.
The characters are extremely complex and the story itself was good. Obviously a lot of people wouldn't like it, but I did. It ends up in a very different place than it begins.

I've never read/liked Anne Rice, so can't answer the Sleeping Beauty question. I usually prefer to read paranormal romance and fantasy books, but this was great.
