Default Book Addict

Hello. My name is Susan and I am a book addict. I have always wantd to own books for as far back as I can remember. I am able to give books away, but I must always have lots of books. I'm afraid to count the books on my shelves for fear of a number higher than expected. I have books in totes and boxes and some stashed in other rooms in the house. I love to buy books for people (but only if I know what they are looking for). I am rarely able to leave the thrift shop without buying a book. I carry a book with me wherever I go. I find it soothing to go to a book store or thrift shop when I am feeling stressed or depressed. I neglect household chores, such as dishes which will pile up for days, because I would rather read when I'm done with work than clean. I went to Walmart the other day and found a book in the clearance book section for $5. I just returned from Goodwill where I found a book by one of my favorite authors for $5. I wonder if I should start a 12-step program. Good thing I can get Kindle books for free!

I have a LOT of unread books with all good intentions but, sadly, I'll never get around to reading them all.

Hiiiii Susaaaaannnnnn! Welcome!

I feel your "pain" -- if you can call it that. I think it's a great addiction. If there's a 12-step program, I don't want to join. And I don't want you to join, either. I want us to stay here, together, talking about books forever.

I guess I really don't want to join a 12-step program either. Now hubby, on the other, wouldn't likely argue if I were and it got rid of say half the books I have. He's a computer guy, though, so when he gets his stuff it's pricier than my used books so he let's it go.

I agree! Stay off the wagon! Don't be a quitter and join a 12-step group! You are among friends here. As long as you realize that if the place catches on fire, I'm saving my books; screw my friends.

Jeremy loves that I buy books because I so rarely by anything else for myself. However, I'm sure that he'd love if I didn't buy books , and chose something else, because it's such a solitary hobby and, apparently, he likes to spend time with me.

Tom may actually have more books that I do, which is pretty astounding. It's part of the reason we are living in two houses now

I'll stay off the wagon!! I'm so excited to know I'm not alone!

I like to read while Eric is watching TV. He likes a lot of shows that really don't interest me, so then we are still spending time together. Of course, he likes to rewind the show and show me what I said "no, I didn't see that" to. tee hee

You sound perfectly normal to me. You actually aren't as bad as me. You found a book by a favorite author at Goodwill? When I like an author that much, I do not rest until I have ALL their books. Immediately!
And I also have a refrigerator magnet, which sums up my outlook in general "Screw Housework."

This is where I put in my plug for the roomba. (It's amazing! It vacuums while I read!)
