We get about 15-20 magazines a month, but we switch them up every other year or so as the family loses interest and they never leave the mail basket.
Popular Science and Popular Mechanics are our latest subscriptions. They've changed the layout and the topics are interesting and varied and my sons love them. Wired is still a favorite but after many years we cancelled The New Yorker...it's too expensive to sit around unread, and The Economist will probably be the next to go. National Geographic only lasted a year, not even the kids were interested, and with competition from cable and the internet I find it hard to believe it will be in print much longer.
I guess this is where magazine thread would go it is reading material after all
Sooo, what are your favorite magazines?
Have you dropped some subscriptions?
Do you read all the magazines you get?
I used to subscribe to The New Yorker for several years, but I let that lapse a few years back.
It got to be too much to keep up with, plus I felt compelled to retain clippings & articles,
which was contributing to my clutter problem (not a good thing).
Now I have zero magazine subs.
I still get The NYer from the library, on occasion, along with Psychology Today (fluffy but a fun read).
The most magazine reading I get done ends up being while in waiting room at medical appointments.
Just about let all my magazine subscriptions go. I have 1 now, Nat'l Geographic. I used to get about 4 or 5 magazines a month through subscription. I don't have a lot of free time for reading is one reason.
Does anyone subscribe to iplayboy.com, lol? It's a collection of all the old playboy magazines from the 50's to now. I think its pretty interesting, much cheaper than buying them individually. Some of the old interviews are interesting too. I was reading a steve jobs interview from 1984 or 85.
-I'd like to have more time to go through the new yorker, that's a fabulous magazine. I'd like to go through old issues and clip good articles.
Vanity Fair is interesting. That's one of the first 3 or 4 I'll look at, at a newsstand. They've always got these oddball capers. And Annie Leibovitz photography. She's amazingly talented.
I should be reading the economist, don't have the time. I like the financial times, I subscribe to that online.
I find a lot of magazines online to be far too confusing and distracting. All the twitter, facebook, social media links? There's like 8 of them. Non essential things seem to clutter up 30, 40% of the page? The text and pictures aren't always clear and easy to read.
Glad to see that others here like Vanity Fair. It's one of my favorites but I do miss Dominic Dune. He did such great research on his articles. Lots of the magazines now are just loaded with ads. I started getting "Prevention" a few months back as it was offered for $2 for a years subscription for answering some kind of survey. You can't go wrong for $2.
