I'm going with King, but different book: Misery.

I've never had to put a book down because I was afraid of what was coming next, but when Annie was about to destroy Paul's feet... in the book it's a gazillion times more terrifying and grisly than in the movie.

Ah yes - Swan Song! One of my favorites. I've had to buy it three times. Wore the first one out between my husband and myself, lent the second one out and never got it back!

First two that come to mind:

Desperation by Stephen King

Life Expectancy by Dean Koontz

Don't read either of these before bedtime!!

One scene/location in Stephen King's "Tommyknockers"...will leave it at that.
A number of scenes in King's "It"-a clown plus a culvert/sewer pipe, what a disturbing pairing-
I stayed up all night (age 17) reading that one bc. I was too freaked out to go to sleep.

Some people enjoy the excitement/thrill they get from riding amusement park rides-
that's not my type of thing, so I read scary books instead.

McCammon's books nearly always scare me. The one that scared me the most was They Thirst. OMG!

Kind of a tangent and sorry if he's been mentioned already (haven't read the whole thread), but is anyone here a Joe Hill fan? I didn't know until recently that he's Stephen King's son - and wow, do they look alike! So I tried starting his book "Horns," but it failed to grab my attention quickly enough to read much. Is he worth trying again, and if so, which book/s would you recommend?

....1984........

Well in my 'book', to say it's 'required' reading is an understatement.
