As for choosing a book, I'm thinking maybe we could list the books on our personal "to be read" pile, and take a general vote? I like the idea of it being a book that "we" haven't read yet, though that could be difficult.

Default So, what's the buzz?

Anyone chosen a title for us yet? and a date to have it read by?

I don't know how to do such a thing, ie. not tech-savvy, but several years back, there were a few of us who formed an online book group. We chose a title, picked a date to log-in, and had a private chat on the book. Is that an option?

Here's a few more books. I'll go along with the majority of members.
Books in my possession that I've yet to read:

The Plot Against America - Philip Roth
Fall on your Knees - Anne Marie MacDonald
The Glass Castle - Jeannette Walls
Amsterdam and The Innocent - Ian McEwan (finished Saturday and Atonement)

One that I still have not finished Corrections by Jonathan Franzen.

I've read five of Kingsolver's books, but not Prodigal Summer from cil's list or lolagranola's suggestion, Poisonwood Bible. Also read The Time Traveler's Wife. The protagonist did not strike me as a pedophile, but I, too, like more realism. Cider House Rules, Water for Elephants, both wonderful books. I just read and liked an essay by Roddy Doyle in NYT so that might be a possibility.

One suggestion for nonfiction author might be David Halberstam I enjoyed The Fifties. I intend to read Brokaw's book. Does anyone like Tom Wolfe? Year ago, I read Bonfire of the Vanities.

Add any book you'd like to recommend for the group, and after the New Year we'll have a poll.

I just started a new thread, and copied cil and tigerlily's recommendations for possible books to read.

Feel free to add any suggestions to that thread.

We'll have a vote after December 31.

And, I don't believe we can have a separate place to share our book reading discussion, but this is a safe space.

Good list. I copied your list and cil's (see new thread here).

We'll vote on/after December 31.

PS - I have my kids with me until the weekend.

We had a book read/discussion in r&p several months ago and it turned out very well..There were very few interruptions and most were others who had read the books and made a comment..We pretty much read at our own pace and made a comment on which chapters we had read and some would discuss, then go on to the next chapters..
