my wife is currently in jail for the next eight months for a forger charge. I might get a lot of flack for supporting a criminal but since she has no history of this and her crime wasn't against me or our child so I am willing to stick by her. I was wondering what are some good books or magazines out that are good to send to an inmate. , I honestly don't read much and I was thinking maybe there were some good specific books you can send to someone in jail. She's 35 if that helps . Don't even know what books are targeted toward that age group The types not allowed are things inciting racial hatred, rioting, making drugs, violence or escaping from jail but that's nothing to worry about she would never read that kind of stuff anyway the only books I have managed to get recommendations on are the Harry Potter series and the Twilight series. Since it looks to be about 11 books in total that seems enough maybe to last the time.
Stephen King The Stand. His most popular. It's long but good, and there will be a 3-movie trilogy on it coming up, so far starring Matthew McConaughey in one of the lead roles.
also you are not allowed to send books to someone in jail , you have to have the publisher send them to the person in jail .
My nephew is in prison and we ( his family ) cannot send him books we have been told that only the publisher can send the books to someone in jail and in prison . sorry

When I worked at Borders, we had customers come in once or twice a month regularly to buy books which we then shipped to prisons for them. The books/magazines can be shipped by bookstores also. Just be prepared for them to be returned for unknown reasons and having to re-ship them more than once.

My brother served 13 months in a New Jersey state prison about 15 years ago. Instead of the publisher sending them (which was one option), we had a large chain store send him the books. It seemed a little easier than going through the publisher. We could not send them directly; I would imagine because the authorities thought that we could be sending contraband along with the books, even though they search them.
Do you have no idea what type of material your wife is interested in? Fiction? Non-fiction? Spiritual? Occult? Scientific? History? Politics/biographies of public figures? Philosophy? Mysteries? Chick lit/romantic? Classic literature, vs. cheap cr@p? Critiques of public policy? Culture? Anthropology? Near-Death Experiences? Health?
We don't know your wife, OP. How could we possibly know what to recommend? Are you allowed to communicate with her? Why not ask her?
Why would the list of titles for someone in jail be any different from what you'd get that person at any time?
