I really enjoy reading the Harry Potter and Percy Jackson books, but I've read them enough times that I think it's time to start reading some new books that I either haven't read in a while or haven't read yet.

What are some recommendations for good books to read besides Harry Potter and Percy Jackson?

Try "Jonathan Strange &Mr. Norrell".

I had never heard of this book, by Susanna Clarke, until I watched the first two episodes of the recent BBC series. It has to do with bringing 'magic' back to England (back in the early 1800s).

Anyway, I enjoyed the first two episodes so much I bought the book (for my Kindle, off Amazon). I found the book so enjoyable that, when I finished, I immediately read it again (it is a long book, and the second reading allowed me to fully grasp whom the characters are, what they are doing, etc.). Now that I have read the book, I am re-starting watching the series.

I am a fan of Charles Dickens, and Ms. Clarke perfectly captures his style of writing, which seems so appropriate for the era involved.

It will give you many hours of enjoyment.

In my opinion, yes. It's one of my favorite book series along with Percy Jackson.

Check out The Water and the Wild by K.E Ormsbee

It's an extremely well written story. Yes, it is for a younger audience, but I highly recommend it. If you enjoy books like Harry Potter, I think this one will be a good choice. I was told about this book and after reading the wonderful reviews on Good Reads, I got it.
