Paperwhite! I have my smaller iPad with kindle app as well, but I never read books on my iPad due to sun glare if reading outside. Paperwhite is e ink and more forgiving on my eyes to read.

I only have a fire, so I cannot compare. But I love it much more than a paper book, it is easier to hold, especailly if I am reading in the car or in bed.

For reading text-based books (ie: not a lot of graphs, charts, pictures), the e-reader is far superior to the tablet. I actually have the Oasis, not the Paperwhite. The advantage of the ereaders is that they are small and light, easy to hold in one hand and much easier on the eyes than a backlit tablet.

The advantage of a tablet is that they are much more versatile and they are in color. You can browse the internet, read email, play games, listen to music - you can't really do that on a Kindle ereader. Although they do come with an alleged browser, it is really awkward and painful. A smart phone is easier and faster.

What it comes down to, I think, is how much reading you do. I read 2-4 books a week, which makes the ereader an easy choice.

eInk is always best for text reading.

I've fallen behind on technology and still use Sony e-Reader I got in 2014.

I did consider getting a Kindle but why fix what's not broken... My e-Reader still works perfectly with the battery lasting several weeks of daily use. I can use it in direct sunlight without any strain and it functions well when transferring my notes to laptop. So, whilst it's tempting to shop around for something new, my heart belongs to this little gadget.

Wow, a battery that lasts for weeks, mine won't even last a day! It is an amazon fire, & I am forever charging it. If it is at 100% in the morning, from an overnight charge, & I read for a few hours, it is often down to nothing by the evening.

I use it minimum 3 hours daily (long work commute) plus some additional reading after work and on weekend. At maximum usage I charge it probably every couple of weeks. If I only read it during the work commutes, it can last up to 3-4 weeks. There has been some loss of battery life through the years but nothing as dramatic like what I experienced with mobile phones or my laptop. I suspect the reason it lasts so long is because it doesn't have the usual screen light.
