Having come across this site & just registered, I thought I'd add that I'm another fan of all things amish ............. the books by Beverly Lewis, Jodi Picoult & Wanda Brunsetter have been addictive & once started are difficult to put down ! I'm just about to read 'When the Heart Cries', by Cindy Woodsmall. Would definately take part in a reading group if one was started !
I've been wondering about these books and after reading these posts I'm going to try one. I have Amish relatives in Ohio. (My great-grandfather left the church when he was 16) and have heard a lot of stories from my Dad who grew up in Holmes Co.
I have been addicted for several years now. I love these books, takes me back to my roots. I just started "A Cousins Promise" by Wanda Brunstetter.
Like so many others, once i start, i can not put the book down. I just finished the Daughters of Lancaster County triology in two days...im addicted i think. They can not write them fast enough for me. They even have sets for younger girls, i have three girls and they have different aged sets for all three. Its great when you can get others involved.
Any of them. lol...they are all good. My favorite authors are Wanda Brunstetter and Beverly Lewis. Cindy Woodsmall is good too. The daughters of Lancaster County was a great series...but they all are.
I can't pinpoint one favorite. But let us know how you like them.
I'd start with 'Abram's Daughters', by Beverly Lewis. 5 volumes make up the series :
1. The Covenant.
2. The Betrayal.
3. The Revelation.
4. The Prodigal.
5. The Sacrifice.
Only one problem - they were so good that it was difficult to put them down at times !
A brief summary :
'This compelling saga spans three generations of a Lancaster County Amish family.. Abram Ebersol & his devoted wife are raising courting-age daughters on a firm foundation of Plainn tradition, & they expect their girls to carry on that heritage by joining the church & making a covenant with God. Each of Abram's daughers, choosing her own path, must come to terms with the Old Ways of thinking & Living'.
I just joined this website and I love to read Beverly Lewis Books. I want to get into a Amish Book Club. Please help me find where I can join one.
