Default Would an avid reader enjoy this...

I have two people on my Christmas list that are avid readers. Problem is they love true crime books and everytime I've bought them a book they already read it. Oprah has talked on her show several times about The Story of Edgar Sawtelle and raved about it. I know it's fiction but they also love animals. I know it's not a book they would buy themself but I'm thinking they would still enjoy it. What do you think? Responses from people that have read the book would be especially appreciated.

I haven't read the book but as an avid reader, I'd rather get a gc so I could buy whatever book I want. There are two things I HATE receiving - books and perfumes/lotions. People who get them for me generally get what they think I want, or what they like rather than what I actually like.

What about something to make reading more enjoyable? You could fix a gift basket that had a nice mug, with flavored teas, hot chocolates, coffees, a delicious truffle candy or treat. If it is a chilly area, a nice comfy throw to cover up with while curling up with that good book. You could include a gift card with the items in the basket so they could choose the book themselves!

What neat ideas you both gave to Rapture. I would suggest doing the same, and I just don't see that someone that like detective stories would read much else.

I liked Edgar Sawtelle, but I don't see it as a detective story lover book. I would go with the suggestions given, and do the gift card. I have given a B&N Card that has enough to cover the book and coffe... and then asked the person "out" for a fun afternoon. We go book buying and hang out and have a coffe while previewing our books. My favorite afternoon out : )

Yes, the only ones who can effectively buy me a book tend to be those who are as crazy about reading and even then it's risky. I love the gift suggestions.

Edgar Sawtelle is a re-telling of "Hamlet"...it is not a detective story or even close, but it does have a mystery. For dog lovers it is marvelous...I enjoyed it very much. But...it is also a tear-jerker, so be prepared with a box of tissues. Beautifully written story of faith, deceit, and unconditional love.
