Hmmm...can I assume you are a fan of the Twighlight series? If so, you'd like Nora Roberts' scarier books, though they weren't my favorite. To get back to Washington State, there is a book she wrote called River's End which I enjoyed and it's set in Washington state so you get the same kind of environment (minus the vampires) of green grass, mountains, etc.

My favorites of hers were the trilogies: Three Sisters Island (about witches) and her Irish trilogies (both the Jewels of the Sun series and the Born in series). My favorite of her stand-alone books is The Villa.

The problem with Nora is that it starts to feel like you're reading the same book over and over. The characters and setting are different, but most of her books follow the same basic outline. I like her books and still have a few that I consider favorites, but I think she is a victim of a publisher who insists on having a certain number of books released every year and they get tiring.

I loved Twilight and can say that they aren't scary. Nora Roberts series of the Blood Brothers was downright scary. I actually found myself looking around my bedroom before turning off my light in case the little devil boy was outside of my window.

So, if you don't like scary, but you DID like Twilight, I think you'd enjoy her Three Sisters Island trilogy. It's about witches...but they're good witches. Plus, you get a little romance thrown in there too. Actually, there are only a few Nora Roberts books that are scary, so I think you might find something you like.

I am a HUGE Nora fan. I read all of her books as soon as they come out. The only series I did not care for was Blood Brothers. I felt like I knew where all three books were headed, halfway into the first one.

I have not seen any of the movie adaptations, but I think I will look for the DVD's
