Readers Digest (anyone else a bit disappointed in the revision? I find the Word Power much less challenging than it used to be - seems a bit "dumbed down" and I miss the artwork on the back THEN I just got the July issue and it is about 1/2 the thickness as usual.....)
Sunset
Consumer Reports
Sports Illustrated
Buy occasionally:
People
LHJ
I enjoy magazines but I hate when they start piling up because I set them aside to read later or I want to keep them to refer to later or whatever. I used to get Newsweek, Kinglinger's, Family Fun, Rolling Stone and a few more but I have really pared down. Too much clutter.

I know what you mean about the mags stacking up. I finally canceled Real Simple and People. They seemed to multiply over night.
My mother's apartment is a breeding ground for magazines. My sis and I have to clear them out periodically or they take over the place.
I've taken Newsweek since college in the 60s and it has always been my favorite magazine. I subscribed to "The Village Voice" back then and my father was certain I would make it on the FBI "people to keep an eye on" list. LOL. I retired from the fed govt after 37 years. I guess the FBI didn't care about my mags and newspapers.
I subscribe to:
Vanity Fair, Runner's World and Make. I buy Craft (the crafty version of Make) when I think about it - I should probably just subscribe. I used to subscribe to New Zealand Home and Garden just to see something different - all the decorating magazines start to look the same after a while.
Modern Drummer (Gee, I bet you guys didn't see this one coming.) Rolling Stone (even though it's nowhere near as cool as it was when I was, say, 17) Dental Floss (helps me try and revive some of those damaged braincells) Texas Monthly (I live in Austin, so I'm pretty sure this one is required!) Playboy (strictly for the articles, mind you) Sports Illustrated (the photography and writing are peerless for the sports genre)
The Economist is the only one I'd bother to read if I had a subscription. I go to the library and page backwards through the New Yorker to look at the cartoons, and will read an article if it catches my eye. I read parts of Harpers, and I miss the Saturday Review which I used to subscribe to. I loved the old Scientific American years ago, my all-time favorite magazine.
My favorite magazines are... Blue Ridge Country...beautiful photography and great writing WV Living...relatively new and good, so far Maryland Life...nice ideas for road trips Hagerstown Magazine...great local stories
It seems that a pattern is emerging....
Other magazines I subscribe to or read regularly are: Southern Living, Mountain Homes, Sports Illustrated, Consumer Reports...
Golf magazines of all kinds come in the mail for my DH...we also check out (infrequently) People and other tabloids , GQ, Men's Health, Rollingstone, Vanity Fair,More, and assorted others. Love magazines ..they are still really good entertainment.
I NEVER buy magazines brand new - not willing to pay the newstand prices (why are they so expensive anyway?). I have subscribed sometimes if I really liked a particular one.
Fortunately, we have several second hand stores and a library where people donate their used copies and I am able to pick-up ALMOST new issues, and useful back issues of a lot of my favorites which include:
- O (Oprah) magazine: Whether you like Oprah or not, there is a lot of good content in these compared to ads, which you can't say about some magazines.
- Real Simple: Again, a lot of good, useful content. This is one magazine I tend to keep.
- County Home, This Old House, and Cottage Living: These have the decorating styles I love most. However, County Home is now defunct, unfortunately.
- Marth Stewart Living: Before they took "Martha" out. There is a lot of useful information in all the issues. Another one I hold onto.
- Bon Apetit: Doable gourmet recipes. Not as pretentious as Food and Wine.
- Southern Living: Love this magazine, but what have they done to it lately? It's so "skimpy". Seems like they're messing with a good thing.
MAGAZINES I'M DONE WITH:
- Better Homes and Gardens: Once you've seen one "outdated 1970's era" kitchen redone in your standard granite and stainless steel with obligatory, hanging pot-rack above the "custom-made" island photo shoot, you've seen them all. This magazine could use a healthy dose of originality.
- Women's Day and Good Housekeeping,: I think I could produce and write an issue of either of these myself rather easily. Just put a photo of some gooey dessert on the front along with the tag lines "Walk off the Weight, Save Time, Slow Cooker Meals, and How To Be Stress Free in 90 Days". The answers and hints in these magazines are so simplistic to be laughable. Ex: Typical Save Money article "Stop using your credit cards, don't buy things you really don't need..." Gee, thanks for the brilliant advice.

I have access to a really great library system (not my local one) that allows its' patrons to take out magazines for a week at a time. all those who are worried about cost and/or clutter should check out their local library. the one i go to has a HUGE selection.
my favs:
- architectural digest - i'm surprised no one's mentioned it...it's really good.
- artnews
- national geographic
- domino - i actually subscribed to this one, so of course it would shut down
- glamour
i used to subscribe to vogue for many years, but after my subscription period ended, i decided not to renew. has anyone else felt like the content has gotten really, REALLY STALE? i have other issues with the mag as well but that is the overriding reason...
...but in general, just a fan of magazines, period. so much more fun than newspapers! LOL
