A Song of Fire and Ice
A Song of Ice and Fire - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
If you are a science fiction/fantasy fan, this is probably the best epic series I have ever read. It is so good that they are planning on doing a mini series on HBO. I highly recommend it to anyone even if you are not a fan of the genre. There are no magical swords or wizard throwing bolts of flame. It is not corny in any way and the characters all have incredible depth and the story is amazing.

I LOVE this series! when a friend first explained it to me years ago, I passed it off precisely b/c it didn't have wizards and magic typical of fantasy. however last year I picked up a copy of Game of Thrones from a book sale and got hooked! I was completely shocked at the end of the first book and had to keep reading. now I'm anxiously waiting for the 5th book to come out (I check my alternate email every day to see if Amazon will send a pre-order prompt).
I'm a bit hesitant about the idea of it being adapted into a film/TV series since it's so dense (god forbid they leave out important characters), but HBO does really good mini series, so I have hope, even though I don't have HBO. so long as they don't screw up the casting for Cersei, Jamie, and Dany, I'm good!

I love the series (so far), but I'm beginning to wonder if it's ever going to end. It's been what? Five years since the last book now? I read the first in the series well over ten years ago.
I don't mind the wait, if it's worth the wait. But given how long it has taken to come out, I'm a little afraid that Martin has lost his excitement for the story.

I honestly have no idea how they can possibly turn this into a mini series.

Im assuming the 5th book is due out very soon if its not out already. I need to hit the bookstore and find out. I was actually thinking the same thing though. Will the author die before he finished the last 3 books :P

He's been saying that for 3 years or more.
Let's hope the slow burner makes a good sauce.

It better because he totally left out princess with the baby dragons in the 4th book. She was my favorite character

Yes, it is superb!
I finished the series back in 2005--could not believe that I had never run across Martin's work before--and got all fired up about the next installment.
Then it slowly dawned on me that I might have a bit of a wait for the next book.
I can always reread them all over again.
HBO does tend to do a good job, too.

I finished A Clash of Kings not too long ago, read it in two days. Granted both of those days i spen 10+ hours in a car. While a very carefully devolped magic system can do alot for a book, i love the behind the scenes, sinisiter nature that magic plays in this series.
I hope they dont botch the HBO series. Not sure what network, but there was a Sword of Truth series not to long ago, Legend of the Seeker. I couldnt watch it because i kept pointing out everything that was wrong. Hopefully they dont do with with ASoIaF.
Currently, Varys is my favorite character.
