Please recommend a "classic" that would be good for a book club.
We're all women. We have already read Madame Bovary. Thanks!

It's not a classic, not at all, but Stieg Larsson's Milenium trilogy is fantastic. A lot of pages, but like a drug.
It's not a classic, but it will be.

+ 1 for Outlander. I just finished the most recent in the series and am bummed I will have to wait who knows how long for the next.
As for a classic, how about Little Women by Louisa May Alcott?

The Good Earth?
Others that fall into "not a classic" but discussion-worthy:
A Thousand Splendid Suns
The Poisonwood Bible
The Samurai's Garden

James Agee's " A Death in the Family"-widely considered on of the best american novels of the last hundred years.
Written plainly but profoundly about a family, it speaks about all families in a way that brings joy to the heart and tears to the eyes.
Of the thousands of novels I've read, in my top ten easily.

The Good Earth
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn
Jane Eyre
We read all of these for book club, and had great discussions on them.
Books I think would also be a good discussion:
Frankenstein
Resurrection (Tolstoy)
The Jungle (although there will be some who'll refuse to read it!)
The Grapes of Wrath
