Well, keeping in mind that I wasn't terribly impressed by the book ...

It varies. Some of the characters are much better in the book. Some of the characters are much better on the TV show.

Probably the thing that turned me off the most about the book was that it was so blatantly allegorical. It kinda reminded me of Lord of the Flies in that respect. Characters behaved in a certain way not because it makes any flippin sense, but because they represent a certain archetype or allegorical message in the story. And like Lord of the Flies, it most often happens with the bad guys so that they come across as one dimensional sermons rather than characters. On that score, I think the TV show is a vast improvement.

But the TV show also falls into the soap opera trap with some of the good guys in that it gives (the hero especially) a needlessly complex and rather silly back story to supposedly make him more interesting. It just makes him more unbelievable. I'm half-expecting his evil twin brother with an eye patch to show up on the next episode.

In the end, the TV show is okay. Not great. Not horrible. It's fun if you have nothing better to do for that hour, but it's nothing to set aside time to watch.

I agree. I gave up on the series after a couple of episodes. As usual the book is much better than the movie.

I took your advice, went to the library and got the first season..I'm only 15 minutes into the first episode and you were right, it's bad..Cheesy acting, cheesy special effects. Too bad HBO or AMC didn't get the rights.

The story is already wrong in about 10 different ways. Why didn't the chief of police die as soon as he got close to the dome? Why does the newspaper owner lady look like she's 25?

Worst of all..Is the Barbie character suppose to be the young guy who was burying a dead body in the beginning?

Lame..I won't be watching the rest of the season.

Well, at least it didn't cost anything! Fifteen minutes into the first episode, you've already found 10 things wrong. Imagine if you watched the entire series. One of my peeves, where are all the dogs? There were quite a few in the book. The newspaper lady, who wasn't 25, also had a dog.

I agree, if this had been on one of the cable networks, it probably would have been SO much better.
