Please, somebody, look under his bed and in his sock drawer to see if he stashed away anything he may have written in the last 45 years or so.

Somewhere in the past day I've read that he had a large number of manuscripts, each labelled as to whether it was complete or needed editing and all neatly filed.

The first time I read Catcher in the Rye I hated it! But then a friend of mine read it and wanted to talk about it with someone who'd read it and I re-read it and now it's one of my favorite books. I think when I read it as a teen I took it too seriously, which is why I disliked it so much.
A few months ago my sister's BF picked CitR off my bookshelf and read it. When I asked him what he thought he said he didn't like it much because he could relate to it too well, because like Holden he was "that guy".
Sadly (but luckily for me) I managed to save CitR and three of his other published works from a trash can in high school (who just throws out books?!).

Actually, I didn't hear about his passing until last night when I was watching all those late night shows and Craig Ferguson mentioned it, and did a hilarious 'recital' of Robert Burns' poem.

A brilliant author, whose writing style drives me nuts. RIP.

He lived a full life; wrote a classic. And he'll be missed. A giant has passed this way...

There's one thing that should probably be noted here for some sort of a historical reason. The idiot (who will not be named) who shot John Lennon was sitting reading "Catcher in the Rye" when the police arrested him.

That's something that always got to me on several levels.

There is no accounting for what crazy people do, or how their minds work, I wouldn't blame the book.

I first read "The Catcher in the Rye" as a freshman in college and loved the book. J.D. was a man of character and substance, a true individual. These qualities seem to be diminishing in our society. I will always gain some measure of stimulation from this man's work.
