I'm getting back into reading and I like urban novels. In the past I've read a lot of Nikki Turner and Omar Tyree. I went and reread some of those books but felt they were intended for a younger audience. I went to the library today and picked up a book by Carl Weber called Man on the Run. I'll let you know how I like it later. Can you recommend a good urban novel?

Can you be a little more specific about what you mean by "urban novel?" I'm not familiar with that as a genre. I've read a lot of good books set in big cities, but I'm not sure if that's what you mean.

I've never heard of them so I won't be able to make any suggestions. Hope others are able to help you out.

Thank you. That was helpful. The only thing I've read recently that comes to mind is City on Fire by Garth Risk Hallberg. Probably not what you're looking for, but it was set in NYC in the 70's. City on Fire by Garth Risk Hallberg

Have you read the Gideon series by Eric Jerome Dickey?

This novel could have been so good had it not been for the ridiculously unnecessary 900+ page length.

Jay MacInerney writes great urban-set fiction, mostly from the 80s and 90s. I just read Bright Lights, Big City and have gotten hooked on him.
