Hello everyone,
Me an a few of my friends have been getting together to talk about the books we have read during the month. We have been doing this for about a year . I have a small problem it seems , that I believe you all can help me with. Now my problem is this…. My friends have brought to my attention that I only read fiction mainly paranormal romance an horror books. ( King, Rice, Adrian, Frank, Ward, Hill.) This is not really a problem for me an in truth my friends just would like to broaden my horizons some more now that I am an adult. Back ground info in this… I took literature in high school an for four years I was made to read non fiction with a involved report at the end of the book . Not saying that some of the books I read where not interesting reads. But when I had a choice on what to read this seems to be my drug of choice so to speak .
So if you were to pick a non fiction author who would you think I would enjoy..
Thanks a lot for any thoughts or reply’s
lost in virginia with nothing to read thats not rotting my brain
If your looking for a non-fiction author, I'd say look for a topic that interests you first. Something you'd like to know more about, would like to hear more opinions about, etc. Once you find what topic interests you, you should be more interested in checking out who wrote books about the topic, whose books are being talked about.
I am currently into the sigma force series of books by james rollins. they are "spy/thriller/some type of artifact/books. just finished the third book, Black Order. He does point out the "true" aspects of the book in his author's notes.
As far as historical fiction, i have always enjoyed the books by John Jakes.
I suggest more classical fiction writers. There are a plethora of them around 18th to early 20th century. Narrow down the genre and go from there. Most of these novels are time-tested and good reads.
Thank you guys for the list , I am making a book store trip tonight so this will be perfect, I am sure I will find something that will spark my brain. it seems I wont be rotting my brain all the way any more
you might want to expand your interst by reading some stuff written quite a while ago. . . .try some of Shirley Jackson's stories. . . .maybe even some of her semi-autobiographical "fiction". . . .
Kurt Vonegutt;
Mystery Stuff. . . . .I used to get "stuck" with one author or genre, too. . . .but there is such a rich world of literature out there. . . .just try it!

Don't be so hard on yourself. The important thing is that you like to read.
