I received a letter from Eversource to exchange a gas meter. Their availability was 8-12AM or 12-4PM block of time. The first date of availability was January 18th 2018! If I needed to reschedule, would I need to book a time 8 months out?

I have pretty low expectations of utilities / monopolies, but even this was really surprising. I'm still in shock that the call really played out that way.

I moved to Cambridge from the West Coast less than a year ago. Is this experience par for the course, or am I doing something wrong?

What is your concern?

In Massachusetts, natural gas meters are required by law to be replaced every 7 years. Eversource is looking to schedule your meter replacement well in advance to meet that requirement.

If it needed to be replaced on an emergency basis your appointment would be much sooner.

My main beef with Eversource is the never ending rate hikes.
