Similar to Davis, but a little bit more urban? (Boston: condos, house)

Hey, I am living in Davis right now and it is great, but being new to Boston I am thinking about maybe living in another neighborhood next year, perhaps in Boston proper. I am in my late 20s and a single guy. A neighborhood for young professional singles and (some) students is what I'm after. I'm interested in any other neighborhoods that you would recommend. T-access is a must (within several blocks max). From what I have read on here, it sounds like Coolidge Corner and Brookline Village are two neighborhoods I should look into. Any other ideas? Money is generally not an issue.

South End? South Boston? Back Bay? North End? Not Boston, but maybe Central Square (Cambridge)?

Agree with Cantabridgienne's suggestions. I might also add Jamaica Plain, though I'm not sure it's more urban in most neighborhoods than Davis Sq., and maybe less urban in some neighborhoods. Still, it's a shorter trip to Boston Proper. You might consider the North End, maybe even Charlestown, if you'd be okay with having a more dense, urban look to your immediate neighborhood while having to travel across town to hit more of the kind of nightlife centering around dance clubs, coffee shops, young professionals bars, or some combination.

That matter of being close to Boston Proper is the main advantage to Coolidge Corner and Brookline Village for what you're looking for. If anything, those neighborhoods themselves are less urban than just about any neighborhood in Somerville. The main reason they might possibly be a good fit for someone with your criteria would be that you'd be close to some neighborhoods right in Boston that might interest you. Those Brookline neighborhoods themselves, though, are more like inner suburban, not so highly urban.

Don't forget the Washington Sq. section of Brookline near Coolidge Corner and Cleveland Circle, right at the C green line, near Whole Foods in Brighton (Boston). Cleveland Circle in Brighton at the Brookline line (near BC) might be scoffed at, but you wish to still be near some students, plus some parts of that area house yuppies in condos, both the Bos and Brookline side. It's safe and near the Chestnut Hill Reservoir for jogging.

But South Boston would give you more of that urban feel than Brookline, though.

Charlestown, in the Navy Yard and Monument Sq., are lovely but you'll still have gritty pockets near and be detached from plentiful amenities in Davis Sq. or Brookline/Cambridge. Not many students, though.

Porter Square and Inman Sq. in Cambridge would be urban enough but a change for you.
