House Hunters Boston Episode (Framingham, Waltham: condo, new house, buying)

Coming up now on House Hunters is a Boston couple expecting their first child looking for a home with a budget of 430K! I can't imagine adding a child to the family and putting ourselves 430K in debt at the same time (Even if I was well to do off) Wonder if they are still living in the home they bought

When I watch House Hunters, I always read the cable blurb at the bottom of the screen to see what year the episode was in. Anything before, say, 2009, is pretty useless in terms of money or seller's market, etc.
I am still amazed that $450k or thereabouts could be considered a "budget!" (And I live outside Boston). I wish House Hunters would give a little explanation as to how people have a gazillion dollars for a second home in Mexico, etc.

Ironically, there was another episode of House Hunters last night with a Boston area couple. They were choosing between single family homes in: Brighton, Waltham, and Framingham.

I thought the choices were completely random. Of course we don't see behind the scenes, but still. Those 3 areas are drastically different!

I've wondered many times how many of the people who were on that show pre-recession ended up losing their homes. It always amazes me how they will have set a limit on how high they can go, the realtor will show them a house $50,000 over their budget, and then at the end, they go, "Well, we chose the house with the big back yard that was over our budget," and they show them living there months later, happy as clams and without a care in the world. Of course, I realize that this is TV, but still, just once, wouldn't you like it to end like this:

(four months later): "Well, we realize now that we bit off more than we can chew. We are already getting behind on our payments, and the train station behind us that we thought would be convenient to live by is actually really, really loud and well-lit at all hours of the night and day and we can't get any sleep."

Uh-uh. Not on HGTV, where every day is sunny and every homebuyer is happy, happy, happy!

I'm wathing the Waltham Brighton Framingham one online. I had no clue you could get that much house and yard in Framingham for around 390K. I think we'll be looking for a house in a few years closer to 300K, maybe Framingham is a good place to look since I work in this area... I'd love a yard that big

Although I did like the waltham house too... Cant wait until we're actually looking

What's your point?

In many towns in the Greater Boston area, people will buy a $450K house and tear it down and build a new house.
