Parking South Boston (apartment, rent, how much)

Hi,

I was looking at renting in South Boston. Near Tremont Street.

DOes anyone live in the area, where can you park your car and how much does it cost?

Do you mean the South End? Tremont Street is in the South End not South Boston. Parking is a PITA (pain in the a$$) anywhere in Boston.

I think you mean the South End too. Just as an FYI for your own reference, the South End and South Boston (affectionately termed "Southie") are two separate and completely different areas.

Parking is tough in the South End. You can get a South End area permit from the city for like $10 or $15/year that will let you park anywhere in that area. If you need your car every day and get home no later than 6/6:15ish it won't be terrible; some days you'll find a spot pretty quickly, but other days you'll drive around for 30 min and still end up parking 8 blocks from your apartment. Coming home later than that, you'll want to drive into a wall.

A bunch of the meters turn from whoever gets there first into resident only free spots from 6PM-8AM. So starting around 5:30-6:15/6:30, you'll see spots open up as people who were paying the meter leave, but it's only a small window of opportunity. Plenty of people drive and park everyday, but it's going to be hassle, especially if you're coming from a place where parking isn't an issue.

Parking is a lot less stressful if you're in a position to take public transportation or to walk to work and only take your car out a couple times a week.

Off street spots are scarce and expensive ($200+ a month). They're rarely included as part of the apartment rental.

It's a little more doable in Lower Roxbury, particularly if you get a Lower Rox sticker. Of course you have to be a resident. There's a reasonably priced parking garage at Ruggles Station if you're parking like for work.

Thanks, right I meant the south end. But I have heard it called south boston, and the other end called southie.

Thanks for the advice, I think I might rent a parking spot for the first few months and then just park on the street.
