Thinking about moving to Roslindale. Is the area near the Arboretum the best part of Roslindale?

That's commonly thought of as the "best" part because it's by far the quietest and (relatively) wealthiest. There's been somewhat of an uptick in diversity - from predominantly Irish-American - because of the climb in Jamaica Plain's housing costs. The area has become a good deal more "tolerant," but is still a far cry from what could be construed as a "gayborhood."

Good info - thanks. I'm from the area and am looking to save on current housing costs. I'd prefer JP but as you note, it's gotten pricey also.

That's a great area, and you'll find a lot of gay and lesbian couples nearby. Rozzie is certainly not the South End, but it is a popular choice among more settled gay couples who are looking for a yard or a place to have children. The area between the train station and the arboretum is just beautiful, and really well located. Good luck!
