Hello!

I'm moving to Dorchester in a few weeks and am unsure about the area. I never saw the place, but the room I am renting sounds quite lovely, and from what I saw on google maps the house is also lovely, but after calling the police station the officer told me it wasn't the best area (but he wasn't too sure where the location was).

So, do any of you know what the area between Washington St. and Geneva Ave. is like?

Thanks!

Speaking from people who have lived in Dorchester, that area is not a very safe place to be. She strongly suggests not moving into that area. That part is considered one of the worst sections of Dorchester. Get that officer's phone number on speed dial if you decide to move there.

Move about a mile further south and east from there and you'll be fine.

It's an area filled with housing projects, gangs, and the majority of Boston's violent crime. It's not as crazy as the bad parts of some other cities, but it's not an area you want to live in or be out in after dark.

"Geneva Ave." is generally a red flag. There are some nice older homes, but the neighborhood isn't safe.

Geneva ave is NOT safe. I have lived in Dorchester my entire life (minus 7 yrs). Geneva Ave is a pretty awful area. Check out www.spotcrime.com
